weird. my mom loves that I play.

then again, I moved out at 17 and never returned. But she buys me something music related for every birthday and christmas...

I think there are other issues afoot with Mike and his mom. I'm thinking I wouldn't have posted this without my mom's permission and knowledge... I wonder how old Mike is... maybe more than 17?

While I never got it that bad, I did get yelled at for playing a JCM800 through a quad box in my bedroom, and in retrospect, I wish I hadn't done that now that I have tinnitus which Im attributing to this.

Still, if you're folks don't get it - you're doing something right...

Wow, I don't know why he would upload that to youtube. For what it's worth, I almost never play guitar through an amp while others are home. They always say, 'Oh, we don't mind if you play loudly.' If I started cranking the amp every day, I bet they'd change their minds pretty quickly.

Also, those accents were pure Michigan.

I'm not 100% convinced that it wasn't scripted... I mean, the boy has some seriously expensive toys, so he has to be getting some kind of support from somewhere.

If it was actually scripted, that's still kinda' cool. In fact, being scripted might actually make it cooler. You know, "Mom pretends to be psycho to help son's Youtube video", etc.

Even if it wasn't scripted, it's still pretty awesome. Sad... but awesome!

Wow, that's some parenting skills right there....

I watched some of his other videos, and while not my cup o tea, his musical abilities are rather advanced for a 17 year old.
The kid is talented, driven, and working on a dream. Shame on his mother for not supporting that.

Looking back I can't believe my mom never said anything about me playing guitar in the basement.

I'm going upstairs to thank her right now.

Pretty familiar.
Mom put her foot her foot through my drums at 15 yrs old.
Never allowed to play guitar or at the time my chosen instrument trumpet.
7 kids in the house so I was not allowed to make music.
So at 50 I started again....
The importance of music is lost on those who can't hear it.
At last I've found a woman who not only tolerates it but enjoys it. (married her immediately. (2 yrs ago).
Mind you she can tell me when I hit a wrong note too LOL
Parents need to know the importance of music and the positive benefits of indulging that passion. Music is one of the best things a young person can indulge in. In response to that mom, as an example:

God... The mentality of your generation... Just...

Too cliche' for it not to be scripted. Funny nonetheless.

As my daughter told me, "if it's too loud, you're too old." Sometimes loud does get old in a house but its still better than TV.

Working at a big box music store for many years, I used to hear similar rants now and then. Maybe not so angry, but parents would sometimes say to me something like "I don't understand what he wants to get into this for, seems like a waste of time to me"
I wish I had had DeepDrummers quote - "The importance of music is lost on those who can't hear it."
My mom's 77 and still makes it out to most of my gigs. I'll thank her at tomorrow nights.

My parents never once yelled at us kids like that. In fact they only told us to turn it down only on a few occassions, they didn't say stop, just down a little. For years we practiced in our basement (I was age 11-16). We would literally rock the house, but my parents never once told us we were useless - in fact I don't remember my parents ever raising their voices at us. We wore some belt marks a few times, which we deserved, but I never heard my parents belittle any of us kids. Or my three adopted brothers either...there were 7 of us kids. All but the one sister played music.

Sadly familiar in that my Mom did the droning, rambling, lecture thing. I realized it only makes kids stop listening and made a promise never to do it to my kids (so far so good I think). Her parenting is what drove me to dig deeper into those guitar strings.

Not sure I am on either side; I do not undertsand the constant taping/uploading that goes on today but believe it's an age thing. I assume it is a form of connection or bond that forms. Seems so empty to me.

Now if you will all excuse me, I have to go yell at some kids that are on my lawn.
