:(

He sure was an original...sorry to hear that.

My favorite story about him is the one where he was in a bar playing, and they had an old ceiling fan which made this annoying creaking noise that was distracting him, so without missing a beat he pulled out a gun and shot it....

Hasil "The Haze" was one of the first DIY rockers. He thought that all of the instruments on the songs he heard on the radio as a kid were being played by a single guy "one man band style" so he learned to play a bass drum with his feet, a guitar, harmonica, etc all at once. He started making completely bonkers records back in the 50's and released them himself. He claimed to have written 7,000 songs!

He lived in a converted polka dot school bus in Kentucky and still was gigging up until recently.

Didn't know him either.
So, he's the guy who shot one of his "fans" ?

Billy Miller of Norton Records on Hasil Adkins:

'He's a wild man, but he is also a great musician. A lot of people think he's just bashing away because he goes way out of tune when he plays, but he actually has perfect pitch. He'll break a string in a show and replace it with a piece of fishing wire lying in the parking lot - he might come home and have some fishing line, a banjo string, some wire that was wrapped around a barrel (6 wires, none of which are guitar strings) but they're all tuned perfectly.'

'...He eats more meat than any other human being we've ever met; he carries around Vienna sausages in his pocket. "What would you like for lunch?" "Meat." "Any special kind?" "Meat."

'He'll go to a restaurant and order three separate hamburger platters, just eat the patties and say, "Hey Billy, you want these french fries?"
