MY latest discovery
It has taken me a long time but I've just discovered Eric Johnson !! Wow, just W..O..W !! His "Tribute to Jerry Reed" is just astounding. I'm looking forward to collecting everything he has done. Why did it take me so long ????

Scotland, I think Eric gets looked over a lot because he's often lumped in with the shredders. In reality, most of his music is very, well, musical....songs if you will. Some say elevator music, but I really enjoy listening to his playing. Layer upon layer of perfect parts intertwined within a song. I'm glad you've discovered him!

E.J.
for all his "eccentricities", he's a PHENOMENAL player.....
There's a track he did with Chet Atkins on Chet's "Read My Licks" release that's just tasty....my personal favorite E.J. tune is "Manhattan" though.....'specially the live version on the G3 cd & dvd with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai...(lumped in with the "Shredders" is right....) although i consider him to be in more of a jazz vein harmonically speaking..... |

EJ's Hotlicks
Maybe hard to find these days, but EJ did an early tape for Hotlicks. If you dig his style, I'd recommend it. We used t have a copy in the shop, and while I didn't study it much, it was great to watch someone with that much technique.
