I teach stained glass classes at an arts & crafts center on a U.S. Air Force base in northern Italy. I've had worse jobs in worse places.

Finance toolbox and tool purchases for mechanics, body shop guys, etc. for a mobile tool company. I talk to dealers (franchise) owners from coast to coast on a daily basis. I've met a lot of nice people from a wide, walk of life. Kind of like TDPRI! : )

I draw pictures all day. Cool? Depends on who you talk to. I work with a bunch of animation, film and comic book geeks (and am one to a certain extent). Historically speaking, society doesn't really consider us 'cool'. But if your into such things, yes, It's a fantastic job.

I work in the fitness industry. It requires a lot of energy and I'm constantly on my feet running around. Yet I also have to be extremely focused at the same time.

Cool job? Yes. Perfect job? Not right now. More stability would be great.

Hey Bold! It's good to see someone that knows what your talking about! We've often said.........it's VERY difficult to explain or carry on a conversation with others about what we do! I was in the communications end of it (microwave and fiber optics backbone systems and short hops with T1-T3s and DACS) and have been in the grid protection end for the last 11 years and 2 months. Counting the days my friend. Before that I worked for an independent motorola service site on business communications and before that i worked at a motorola, magnavox, peavey, kustom amp service center. Oh yeah...we sold guitars too! Thanks man. Good to see another that "understands". :)

I manage the quality program for our factories in China. I hate the company I work for, but like what I do. Finishing up grad school and hope to find a new job soon.

I sell my pee to dope-smoking truck drivers. Aside from having to drink gallons of water every day, it's a pretty cool job.

I work two weeks then go home for two weeks.
The cool part is the two weeks home and the pay checks.

34 years in microelectronics, engineering, then operations, then product management, then senior management. Several patents to my credit and most of you have benefited from one of them. my little contribution to helping mankind.

It's been a good ride. A lot of hard work but the rewards were worth it.

What I do may or may not be cool, but I really enjoy it.

I'm a Senior Unix Administrator. I manage Solaris, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and Centos Linux, openBSD, Tru64, and HP-UX servers. I've also managed AIX and Irix unix servers and way back, I managed Windows, 3com, and Novell networks. Farther back than that, I was a programmer working on a funeral home software package and a point of sale package for junk yards.

I've worked at small places and large including IBM (which sucks badly), Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, and NASA Headquarters.

I've managed all aspects of email servers, web sites, scripting engines, database servers, and many things in between.

I'm quite good at troubleshooting problems, system documentation, and scripting in order to automate processes.

Right now I'm working at the main company that manages the data used in about 92% of all 911 Emergency calls in the US and Canada. Our company manages the Amber Alert gateway (we're the guys everyone gets the alerts from but we don't manage the alerts themselves) and we created the first Text to 911 service.

I've learned quite a bit about how 911 works since I started here.

Right now I've been awake for almost 24 hours and am in Dallas Texas. I finished (with my team of course) getting an important server back on line.

Honestly the folks are great to work with. Everyone brings their passion to the job because literally, lives are on the line. We don't run 911 but we manage 911 data. When you call 911, we're the reason they have your location on their screen within a second or two.

Work Worth Doing.

Carl

Wasn't me. Our pumps are $525 cash, but are often covered by many insurances. No false promises. They let you use what you've got. It won't make you 20 again, but it gets you useable.
