This thread is an illustration of the phrase "Well, what did you expect?"

Oops, I missed that. However, that's even better!! Did he address the person directly? Why bother making a list if nothing else is done?

I've noticed that "obviously" is also used a lot by athletes when they are being interviewed. It's kind of weird.

At the risk of sounding very unpopular... :)

Language always has evolved and will continue to do so. The way we speak English today isn't the same way that it was spoken 200 years ago.

You don't restrict the way someone speaks to exisiting conventions. Rather, the rules of language change based on the way that people speak.

Not trying to start an argument...but I think it's only fair that an alternative view be represented.

I would agree except I keep seeing apostrophes used incorrectly hereabouts and I want to, like, scream

The word "like" appears to be used as a sort of cheats way of dealing with punctuation. If you cannot form complete sentences in your head before speaking it is a good way of dealing with non-sequiturs. It also means that one does not have to remember exactly how events transpired.

Saying "He was like 'Oh My God'! Is similar to saying "He adopted a suitably shocked attitude, and although I cannot remember what he actually said, his reaction can be roughly paraphrased if we suggest he used blasphemy to demonstrate his state of shock".

Oh god, I do that. I talk faster than I think, and now I just say like instead of an awkward silence.
