Very punny, Big Daddy.
I have the dilemma of having two good gyros places around me...hmmm...do I want Youseff's or Rosie's? Man, I totally gotta have a gyro now.

Falafel King in Boulder Colorado is the second best Gyro I've ever had. The best Gyro's were in a little stall just off one of the metro stops in Athens Greece.

Nothing as excellent as the Mediterranean Snack Bar in Huntington, NY. God I miss their gyros.

Best one I ever had was (sacriledge!!!) on a fresh-made kaiseresque roll in Heidelberg Germany, from a Turkish place. Some very interesting spices while maintaining the basic Gyro vibe.
Second best at the stall 2 down from Freejacks'. Sadly, now I have to drive @ 45 miles into south Philly to get anything that resembles a decent one...at least that I've found so far.

In my experience , they gotta have the big vertical pillar that they shave off from, and they've gotta be busy enough that by necessity they're switching out that pillar often. These are just the bare minimums, I think after that it's all down to seasoning and the cucumber sauce..

Not Parthenon's on State Street? That is where I always went, I ate on the roof so I could watch people walk on State Street and also get attacked by sugar crazed bees.

I ate a mighty tasty Gyro several times at a small restaurant in Alexandria, Va a little east and across the street from the Huntington Metro station on the yellow line. That was 10 years ago, but I can still mentally taste the flavors. Mmmmmm.
