Things that make you go hmmm?

Ever find yourself wondering about stuff? Like for instance, I don't get why we call people from Finland Finns, people from Thailand Thais, people from Scotland Scots, but we never call people from England Engs? What's up with that??

Engla's were a germanic tribe called after their place of origin which was angular or angli (latin). Romans tagged the Northern part of the UK Engla land after them. Guess England stuck, but the Engla's weren't so successful. A real Englander will probably correct this.

BTW - How you Newfies doing?

A couple things that make me confused:

Why we drive on the parkway and park on the driveway

Why braile is on drive-up ATM buttons

This is what I'm talking about...no logic to this world at all. I mean Greenland is covered in ice and Iceland is actually quite green. Hmmmm?

And we give certain countries completely new names (Germany, Japan) that have nothing to do with what they themselves call their country (Deutschland , Nippon).

i dont get why "sheep" is the same plural or singular.

Sheeps seems perfectly viable

I actually have heard an explanation for that one. The vikings found them and named them like that so they could keep fertile Iceland to themselves and have nobody else want to come because of the implied climate.

Yeah, and why do we have goose and geese, but moose and just moose again for the plural?
