I honestly don't get it.
For example, his whole "old timey" fashion sense annoys me. I have more respect for guys who wear jeans & a t-shirt while doing what Jack White does. Like, stop trying to look like Johnny Depp and play your guitar! lol.. The whole "image" thing annoys me, no matter who's doing it. But Jack White delivers on the talent, so I can forgive him. He can wear whatever the hell he wants.

I also get the impression that he would prefer to be the front man in every project he's part of, and isn't very good at taking a step back and being part of a team. Then again, I've been proven wrong in this respect - he's not a stage hog with The Raconteurs, the Lorretta Lynn colaboration went off beautifully, etc.. It's just an impression I get, probably not completely justified.

I'm a fan of his music - not all of it, but probably most of it. And like I said, I have tremendous respect for him. Look at all of the projects he's part of. He's got to be one of the hardest working musicians in Rock and Roll right now. I love his tone, and I love the fact that he's a "tone freak".. but at the same time, his whole attitude comes off as "full of himself", perhaps more so in recent years as he's become more famous. I'm sorry if I don't think he's some kind of demigod.. he's human. And at the end of the day, that makes me like him even more.

Jack White did a week long thing with Stephen Colbert a while back with the premise he would help produce Colbert's " comeback " album. If you think Mr. White takes himself too seriously, watch this.

On the one hand I can understand this... on the other hand, he's a flippin' rock star! They don't dress like the rest of us do. If I was a rock star I'd probably wear a lot different attire than I do (but, to your point, I probably wouldn't dress like Jack White )

Clapton's a rock star, and so is Derek Trucks, but they dress pretty normal. They let the music speak for itself. White is just a poseur.

As opposed to every single other rock and roll star in the world.

Clapton?

I love Clapton, but come on, in that so called "golden era" of music he was as much a poseur as any of them. Now he just dresses like he's going through the motions. But it's music who cares how they dress? Listen with your ears, not your eyes.

Some people need to desperately hate something, they feel some sense of validation. However, it just makes them look kinda foolish.

I find this for you. Maybe now we can all stop hating someone for being successful where we failed.

Might have to copy/paist it into your address bar, sorry.

FWIW, I don't like their silly hats either. I realize that image and sytle is all part of the package, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Also, I think it's a bit premature to be putting Jack White in the same category as The Beatles and Clapton. They earned their silly hats. I'm not sure if White has paid his dues quite yet (but maybe he has, whatever).

^edit - I don't know who that is in the first picture, but it doesn't really matter - if they are actual gun slingers from the 1890's, then that's cool - if they are modern era rock stars trying to look like 1890's gun slingers, then they look completely silly, IMO.

If I were a rock star, I would always be draped in velvet.
