My thoughts exactly!

Even as a smoker (rollies), I find the idea of dipping gross.

Edit: Oops, re-read OP.

I know someone who had dipped his whole life and found out he had testicular cancer. He threw out the tobacco on the way home from the doctor's and bought a can of beef jerky dip. He has that all the time now and loves it. He quit tobacco cold turkey with that beef jerky in the dip can.

I know a guy who quit dippin by using beef jerkey snuff. (Died of mad cow disease, though) Just kiddin. He said it was a life saver and got him to where he could go cold turkey.

AFTERTHOUGHT: Whatever it takes, stick with it--quit that poison before it maims or kills you. Should pi$$ you off that the creeps who push that crap spend millions of $$ to research what "enhancements" need to be added to tobacco to increase its addictiveness, so you go thru the discomfort you're in now, and give up on quitting.

If you need some more motivation, look up some photos of guys who have been surgically mangled due to various mouth, jaw, nasal, etc, cancers--just to save what's left of their lives.

Ain't no shock like hearin, "You got mouth cancer. But the good news is that we think we can stop it spreading--if it hasn't already--by taking a set of bolt cutters and clippin out your lower jaw bone."

Good friend of mine dips, goes through bouts of trying to quit, I hope he can do it one of these times. He successfully got away from it for a while, used nicotine patches. Almost got away using gum and bandits. Good luck!!

It was very difficult for me to stop.. and to this day, if I drink beer in long necks, I crave a dip. At ballgames, I crave it... I quit more than 20 years ago.. it is a nasty addiction, but when I saw my gums receding and bleeding, I knew I had to do it...

There is no secret to beating addiction. It is a choice and a considered choice.

Was wondering that as well. Is it the same as dunking? If so, I'll have to stop putting biscuits in my cup of tea in view of the health risks.

Its a choppped up tobacco product in a can. Sometimes called, "snuff". Grab a pinch, put it between your cheek/lip and gums. Just make sure you spit "the juice" out, or you gonna turn green!

Then there is chaw, or chew tobacco, which is leaf type (think Beachnut). You grab a wad, shove it your mouth. You can "gnaw" on it a lil bit, but mostle just park it between check and gum. Again, spit the "juice" out or dizzy/upset tummy with green gills comin your way.

Then you have pressed tobacco, or "plugs". You chew off a chunk, and work it with your teeth, then position it between cheek/gum.

Yeah, I tried em all. I don't like chew's of any variety.

I smoked cigars to help quit cigarettes. Now I smoke maybe a one or two cigars a month at most. Been years since I touched a cigarette.

I quit the swedish snuff/dip 10 years ago. I think cold turkey is the way to go. Prepare in advance. Decide on a date when to quit and make sure not many other difficult things are going on in your life at the same time.

The addiction gradually wears off of course, but there might be occasional flashes of cravings that continue for years. When you have quit, don't ever think that you might do it just once. Reconcile yourself with the fact that it is over.
