I tried that once, when I was 12, and I accidentally swallowed some of it. I'm sure you all know what happened next.

I quit 3 months ago, after 15 years of dippin. My health insurance has a program that pays for it.They suggested using a nico patch, and 2mg gum, which I did use.I never had any luck quitting just using the gum.Oh,the final reason for my quitting, this year tobacco users pay 30bucks a month extra for health ins.,add that to the 20 per week to buy the dip!I recommend the patch, good luck to ya!

I've had those swedish snus pouches before - wowweeeee! Had to take it out before I fell over. About the same as winding up a child's swing and then letting it rip, and about as mature.
And I've had a fair amount of betel nut, and paan (the Indian version with a touch of "allsorts" in it) and again - fun for a while, but bugger getting addicted to it. Rots your face off.

I've smoked cigarettes & cigars in my lifetime & quit both cold turkey.Chewing gum helped me(regular sugar free, not nicotine gum).
I tried Red Man back in the day & found it disgusting. Never bothered trying dip. But I worked with a guy about 20 years ago (in a retail store) who used dip constantly while he was working. He would keep a cup with him to spit in. And it grossed out his coworkers and customers as well. I tried to tell him that he was losing sales because the customers were getting grossed out & walking away. But he was an idiot & thought it was funny. Meanwhile everyone else was making money & he wasn't. I hope that's the only ill effect it ever had on him. That would have been bad enough to inspire most folks to give it up. Good luck.

Take a piece of plain white paper or white napkin, fold it into a little chaw and stick it in there. Just let it sit there and dissolve. It ain't the same, but will at least give you some texture. And worse that happens is a little extra fiber.

If you want to quit you will. You already know it is a health risk. Pick a method, they all work if you want them to. When I quit smoking in my 40's, I chose Sunflower seeds and supported that industry for a number of months. Ultimately it isn't the substitute, its the desire.

Luckily, I never got hooked by that or cigarettes but I know most people do.
I wish you all the luck and there's no kidding if people liken this to the fight of your life because literally in this case it is. The first death I ever experienced that I could remember was when a kid in middle school died of lip cancer so it's safe to say it's never too early to quit. |

You can do it, the first few days will be hard and then you will be fine.

I had to stop because of the effects it had on my cardiovascular system. Nicotine contracts the smaller blood vessels, making it harder for the heart to get blood out. I actually felt numb and cold in my toes and fingertips in the evenings. Your heart is working like you were 60 pounds overweight which is a real health risk. The numbness, coldness didn't help my guitar playing either...

The biggest part of the battle is Upstairs. If you have the mindset ( mine was price and the pull they had over me) I went with patches and now have 14 years smoke free. Had urges for the first few years, but they were manageable. After x amount of years, still found myself reaching to my shirt pocket out of habit. Don't miss them and can't stand the smell of them.. You can do it. It's just a battle for awhile. : )

Battling the same thing as we speak. Everyone can rag on it and call us idiots, and it is gross, but I grew up in a small town with relatives that were all farmers, and it was just something you did. I started young, and I'm 45 now. I quit for 10 years, then got really stressed at work and started again. Just recently quit for 2 months, go really stressed at work... you can guess the rest. I'm on my LAST tin right now.
My biggest problem is not physical, it's mental. I love the whole routine... it's the situations that kill me. Plus, even at 45 I still play hardball, which also makes it tough. BUT, you can do it. This helps for me: don't start out with the thought of quitting for the rest of your life, think about quitting for the next hour. Then half day, then day, as time goes on. It always felt overwhelming for me to think about 'the rest of my life.' Take it in small increments at first. But know this (at least for me): the urge doesn't go away, you just learn to control it. And you'll find you think about it less and less. Just don't let your guard down. And again, for me, cold turkey is the only way I've been able to quit in the past. Sorry for the long post, and I hope I don't come off as preachy, I'm still struggling myself. But I'll make a deal with you: this is my last tin, let's both quit. YOU CAN DO IT!

1) Really glad I quit (when I see what it does to teeth and he has advanced to upper and lower and has lots between his teeth.. NOT attractive) 2) crave one. Tobacco is a really good way to deliver drugs. Dipping is a really good way of delivering tobacco... people have been doing it forever... for the 'neener people' to call them stupid or names or judge them as people is just to draw negative attention to oneself. Of course you are intellectually, morally and in all ways superior to the poor schlubs who are addicted... but, you already knew that, you remind us all the time! We all make mistakes and have weaknesses and failings and shortcomings and addictions and quirks... live and let live! to the OP, good luck man, I hope you make it.. what is past.. is passed... what you do today is all that really matters.

I love my Copenhagen and have been chewin since the age of 15.
I love the stuff and even dream about Cope so fresh it burns a hole in my cheek-LOL Go to the Dentist every 6 months and have only had one filling in my entire life. He says "you are the most boring patient I have" and spend the least money too. The Copenhagen has been cheap insurance for me and I hope I'm buried with a can in my back pocket. I Started way back in Junior High because I played too many sports to be a smoker and didn't like compromising my Lungs. I almost quit once when my wife grabbed a bottle of 3 day old chew spit out of the center console of my truck when I picked her up at the airport. It was ghastly....I had to pull over for her to puke twice. I almost puked myself. One time this new singer was auditioning for my band and he gabbed the beer bottle off the top of my amp to take a swigg and he didn't know I had been spatting C-Hagen into that all night. He turned purple at first, then ran to the bathroom and heaved. We all got a good laugh out of that - taught him better than to grab a guy's beer like that again. Last year my own brother accidently grabbed a coffee cup of mine and did the same thing. That's the biggest hazard of the stuff - unwitting spectators, turned victim. |

If my negativity saves one guy's life then it's been worth it. Not many people get over their addictions by pats on the back and, "maybe next time" advice. That crap'll kill ya in the most gruesome way.

Nicotine's a helluva drug. Frankly I don't know how I avoided it (I'm pretty susceptible to bad habits) , but one thing that helped was that my dad used to smoke in the car and I always got car sick. . . .
As a middle/high school teacher, it really upsets me to see that a lot of Japanese kids pick it up in college. They have NO idea how hard it can be to get off of it. I'm very strongly scornful of smokers when I'm talking to students about it, and I admit I have an attitude about the teachers in my school who take smoke breaks out on the stairs and come back in to class reeking, but it's just because I know how insidious tobacco is. Back to the OP--good luck, and 2 tidbits that might be useful, from my experience of quitting other stuff: 1. Don't rely on willpower; it's a simultaneously blunt and fragile tool. Work on strategies, habits and attitude. 2. Don't worry too much about falling off the wagon, as long as you don't quit on quitting.
