RHCP in manchester the other year, even my sister went.

Robert Plant a few years ago in a VERY small club (which would've been very cool) down the road from me when I was younger and naive.

The Ian Moore Band.

I didn't go and now cannot participate in a discussion of said band on the TDPRI.

Hendrix, February, 1968, at the CNE Coliseum, Toronto. They should have had flu shots in those days!

Rory Gallagher

Ive no excuse. I live in Ireland and I could have seen him lots of times.

I allways thought I'd see him the next time.Sadly it'll never happen now.

The others would be Doc Watson,Gatemouth Brown and Jimmy Smith. They all made one off visits to Dublin which I missed

Springsteen anytime before 2003

I finally went to see him 2 years ago; after passing up literally dozens of shows in the 70's. I couldn't get past the hype, how could he be THAT good?
He was OK in the stadium I saw him in (I think it was him, bad seats), but I'm sure he was unbelievable in a small club.

1975.

No good excuse for not being there...just plain stupid.

Oh yeah, and Watkins Glen in 1973 (same excuse as above).

DOH!

Elvis Costello and later Devo

It was the 80s

I was stupid

I had friends trying to get me to go.

Elvis played the Princess Theatre - a small venue (I don't know how many hundreds of people) he was touring My Aim is True, pretty much before he exploded.

Ditto with Devo, flogging Jocko Homo, yellow contamination suits and all, played the SUB Theatre at the University.

Hindsight is 20-20.

I instead insisted on wasting my money seeing bloated arena rock acts from really crappy vantage points. (Styx, Triumph, the list goes on)

To this day I dislike the big concert experience. I would rather go see a no-name act where I can see the expression on his/her face and gauge their emotional commitment to their music than see another act bellow out to the 18,000+ "How's it going (insert name of city here)!"

Springsteen also

Went to see Robbin Thompson (a former band mate of his) at the old Bayou in DC - happened to be a night when Bruce was in town but between shows. Left the club minutes before Springsteen showed up finished up the second set with the band.

SRV- he played around Dallas all the time. I always put it off. Then finally I was going to a show that was scheduled two months after his Helicopter crashed. I never got over that one.

Ditto on Soundgarden.....I thought they had at least 3 more years. Maybe they will get bored and do a reunion tour.

DeMiola - McLaughlin - DeLuca. I had tix. Got too drunk before leaving home for the show. Did not even try. Now I can relive the show on CD. But it ain't the same.

ZZ Top - I've never seen them and think I would have
really liked their Deguello tour just like that LP.

Dwight Yoakam - when Pete Anderson and the other
originals were still together.

Texan - I didn't make Woodstock but did the whole 3
days at the Atlantic City "Pop" Festival two weeks
prior to Woodstock. Think A.C. was a lot better deal
all the way.

That would have been the '70s, circa 1977-78, not the '80s. Same with Devo and "Jocko Homo."

I had tickets for the Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" tour and I was a huge fan. Like an idiot I signed up to cover someone's shift without checking the date and then couldn't get out of it. Bugs me to this day.

So true. Though that doesn't mitigate the fact that I was stupid back then.

Just about as bad...

Blind Faith had played their first (and only?) show at the L.A. Forum. As we were leaving, one of the guys found an invitation to the after-show party lying on the ground. We walked over to the backstage entrance. I didn't think a bunch of teenage punks like us had any chance of getting by some pretty beefy security just up ahead. I chickened out. The others guys flashed the invitation and got right in. A "who's who" of music was in attendance. I was waiting by the car.

The Horror

Monterey Pop. Had tix, had duty, couldn't go AWOL.

The Last Waltz at Winterland. Hmmmm, I wonder what there was better to do that night.

Humble Pie (real Pie w/ Frampton and Marriot) at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood.

Allman Bros. w/ Duane at the Whisky a Go Go.

For the latter two, I said I'd see them the next time they came to town....

Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 1970's

I was 15 when the plane crash happened. I saw my first concert a few month's later (Cal Jam 2 at the late Ontario Motor Speedway). If they'd toured in 1978, I would have gone to see them for sure.

They come out to California a few times a year but the band is a little to commercial for me now (the show they did on CMT the night before the Superbowl made me wretch).

If I knew then what I did now, I'd have gone to see Rory Gallagher too.

Two missed--one recent, one long ago

Most recent one: Last year, Radiohead playing at the Tweeter Center in MA. Didn't even know they were playing until a friend (who SHOULD have invited me!) told me after the concert was over.

Long, long ago: Muddy Waters was scheduled to play in Madison, WI somewhere in 1982-83 (I think) when I was at school there. I had tickets, but he had to cancel due to poor health. I think he died the next year...the one legendary artist I truly miss seeing...

One word....CREAM!

Never got to see them in the day, and for me they were a Rennisance in my musical development! Cream, and Clapton in particular opened more musical doors to me than I knew existed prior to them. I subsequently got into Clapton's groundbreaking work on the Bluesbreakers with John Mayall, and the Yardbirds.

Well, in less than 2 weeks I'll finally get to see CREAM perform live for the first time since they broke up in '68 (except for a 3-song concert they did back in '93 when they were inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame) since I've got opening night tickets to the Royal Albert Hall 5-concert series! Who says you can never go back? YEE-HAW!

To prepare I've been listening to all the old albums and re-releases and re-masters of their classic performances. What great composition, performance, command of their instruments, etc! And I stand in awe of it being the late 60s!

I predict they'll open with "White Room", and "Sunshine Of Your Love" will be one of the encores. You heard it here first!

(Those of you not at least 50-something need not reply to this post unless you have positive things to add)

Stevie Ray Vaughn

It was 1990 or '91,(can't remember) summer, Kalamazoo Michigan. His second-to-last (or something like that) concert. It was at the fairgrounds, I believe. I was going to go and meet a guy from work there, but it was one of those evenings when I was totally completely exhausted. Stayed home and slept right through it. "I'll see him next time he comes around," I thought. Look what happened.

Anyway, after that I've kind of made it a point to see a band I'm even slightly interested in if at all possible. Bob Dylan and Merle Haggard were in town a couple of weekends ago, and I'm bummed I missed it... but because I did I was able to see Elvis Costello, so that made up for it.

SRV - Alpine Valley

My neighbor had tickets to "the" infamous Alpine Valley concert, and he pretty much had me convinced to go, but I had a business trip to Chicago on Monday morning, so I passed on going.

When I pick up the paper Monday morning.....

Never again will I skip a concert for someone I've always hoped to see!

Waylon live album taping

Late 90's, Nashville; the recordings were released as Never
Say Die, if I remember correctly. Tickets weren't for sale, invitation only, but I knew some folks and if I'd tried I could have gotten them I'm pretty sure. It was at the Ryman, which is one of the best places in the world to see a concert; I'd gone to see some invitation-only CMT TV tapings at the Ryman before (Jerry Lee, George Jones). I thought about bringing my dad in from out of town to see it, since Waylon is his all-time favorite. But I was real busy and didn't make the calls and just let it pass from my mind. I've regretted it ever since, even more so for my old man, who owns that record and loves it.

I missed this one - absolutely clueless!

I was in boot camp at Ft. Ord in 1970. We got a 4-day pass over the 4th of July weekend, and a guy from Chicago and I hitched up to San Francisco for the long weekend. We crashed in a commune in Haight-Ashbury and spent the 4 days doing the local scene. I was pretty clueless about the Fillmore (Montana boy ), so we took in a few other sights and scenes - we saw HAIR at the Aquarius Theater, spotted Janis Joplin in her multi-colored Porsche in Sausalito (I think it was immediately after the Festival Express tour).

But I missed the Fillmore show - that would have capped an astounding holiday!

Ah, well . . .

Dean

A friend of mine in high school invited me to cross the border with his friends to see The Grateful Dead in '87 (not sure where).

Being 18 and not too worldly at that point I declined.

Now, years later, with nearly every GD recording ever put out in my collection, I do regret not taking that leap.

Went to a local club...

the Longhorn in Mpls. to see some local band.
they'd been bumped for some band from England
that nobody'd heard of called The Police. And they
wanted a $5 cover. Hey, nobody's worth a $5 cover.
So I left.

A year later their 1st record came out. Doh!

i missed a chance to see the rolling stones, in new haven, in an unannounced show for a 750 person club called "Toad's Place", when i was 18 in 1988.
my dad was friends with the manager, and he missed a message that said:
"Kirk this is Kevin. I can't say why, but you DEFINITELY want to come down tonight. And bring your son." (they would let me go in if i was with my dad, i saw some shows there starting at age 14 like that :) )
My dad heard the message the next day

I was too young to see them in their heyday but was hoping to see them at Knebworth -- my parents wouldn't let me.

A year or two later, now in engineering school, I was gearing up to see them at the Montreal forum, and then Bonzo cancelled the tour, forever.

I was fortunate enough to see the Boss in a reasonably-sized arena (the Ottawa Civic Centre) in the late 'seventies, but regret passing on the Reunion tour -- I thought he was washed up.

Cheers,

I missed Dylan and Merle last week.

Doh!

Had planned on it, but in the meantime I've been sidetracked about going on vacation to Mexico and before I knew it, the show was upon me and I couldn't make it.

Walked out of SRV and early REM

Blame it all on booze.

Woman comes back from the restroom Stevie Ray has just started his set in my favorite local venue, a beautiful old theater.

Woman:
You wouldn't believe how crowded that...

Me: Christ! shutup! I'm trying to enjoy the show.

Woman: ____hole! you can't talk to me like that. Slap Slap punch kick.

Months later, REM is out with their new album Murmur. They are playing a small club in my hometown.

Woman: These are s__tty seats I'm getting a cramp in my neck.
Me: Well if you hadn't taken so long getting ready we'd have gotten here earlier. Now shutup I'm trying to enjoy the show.

Woman Slap! punch! kick! kick!

Arrrrgh, I likes me a wench with spirit!
It'll be 20 years of bliss next March
