Forbes Top 10 Most Miserable Sports Cities

Oh the horror of being in a town where the sports teams always lose. Forbes rated the top 10.

1) Atlanta
2) Seattle
3) Phoenix
4) Buffalo
5) San Diego
6) Houston
7) Denver
8) Cleveland
9) Kansas City
10) Cincinnati

Personally I think Houston should be #1 by far. So much incredible heartbreak being a lifelong Houston sports fan leme tell ya.

You should try being a hockey fan in Toronto. I used to joke about how I wanted to see the Leafs win the cup before I died. That joke is becoming less and less funny.

Being a hockey fan in Toronto hasn't been fun lately, but at least I can say
I was at the MLG twice to see them win on home ice. Shows my age doesn't it?

being a Bay Area native who transplanted down to SD I can definitely say there is a difference in the misery down here.

When Bay Area teams are bad, the fans may get angry but still have the same passion for their teams. San Diego fans expect nothing but championships from either the Chargers or the Padres, anyone with any sense knows that this is not possible every year. After years without championships down here the fans are going away and what they don't realize is that it takes fan support to build a team that can win.

I guess I shouldn't complain though, when I go to Petco Park to see the Giants I feel like I am at AT&T Park South

The Braves beat the Indians in the world series. How can Atlanta be above Cleveland?

I believe they are ranked on all the championships the cities have won (or not) in all the major sports combined.

Cleveland has won more sports championships than Atlanta has, when considering all the major sports. Apparently Forbes thinks Atlanta sports teams have lost the most in the long run.

Cleveland is 8 and Philly's not in the top 10...this list has no credibility.

I don't care that the Browns were great in the 1950s. Too long ago.

How is Denver more miserable than Cleveland? Cleveland lost two consecutive AFC championship heartbreakers to the Broncos. Sure the Broncos lost the ensuing SuperBowls, but at least they got there then eventually won two in the 90s. Even now, the Browns still stink but Denver's routinely makes the playoffs. Colorado Avalanche won a Stanley Cup (or two?) didn't they. Nuggetts haven't won a title but they aren't awful, some entertaining teams throughout the years, and the Rockies are a young franchise who has been decent. Been to a World Series more recent than Cleveland...who hasn't won since 1948. Shouldn't even have to argue between those two.

Houston is a tough call. Astros and Oilers have had plenty of heartbreak, but at least the Rockets came through back to back. But Houston is definitely in the mix.

As far as San Diego, I've been to an Eagles game in San Diego, they don't seem to care and I don't blame them. The climate is too nice to care about sports. No way San Diego and miserable should be in the same sentence. Phoenix is kinda similar, no success really but still not enough history to be yet considered futile in my opinion.

Atlanta deserves to be up there, but not number one.

In addition to all the losing and just generally having pathetic sports teams... their one true star of the last decade or so--who is a [nearby] hometown boy no less--took a dump on them on national television (LeBron's "The Decision").

I think Cleveland is far and away the saddest sack amongst this group, and to me, it's not even close.

Agreed. And even when not winning championships, Denver has at least had excitement with their teams. Witness Tebow this year and all the come-from-behind victories, and with the Rockies when they went to the Series several years ago-- they did it by winning like their last 20 games or something! Cleveland has none of that.

I agree, don't see how Cleveland can not be the worst.

Where's Washington? Skins glory days are 20 years in the rear view mirror. Caps can't advance past first round of playoffs. Wizards/Bullets have one championship in the 70s. Baseball team defected TWICE and the third-times-a-charm version are perennially cellar dwellers.

Surprised Minneapolis didn't make the list (I grew up there). Sure the Twins won in 87 and 91, but the Vikes have lost four Super Bowls and five straight NFC title games. The North Stars never won a title and the Timberwolves suck.

It has to be Cleveland... not just for not winning anything in the last 40 years, but also having the Browns move, then come back and suck eggs, and the heartbreaks with the Indieans, plus The Decision. In addition, Cleveland is in nearly every other team's highlight films.

i am atlanta native...

it's been miserable growing up. falcons, hawks, braves, and the now defunct thrashers.

all go on winning streaks, get your hopes up, and then ruin it every damn time.

My grandfather was born in 1910 and passed in 2002. He never saw our beloved Cubbies win it all.
