GadZooks!.,.,Guitar Center!

I attended the Atlanta Blues Society meeting this
afternoon and thought while this was near the GC
why not stop in after the meeting.
Over in the vintage amp area among other things
was an extremely nice Vox AC50. I am a Vox nut
and have collected many nice J.M.I. era examples.
Well, you know those little plastic things they use
to attach tags of all sorts to clothing and stuff for
pricing etc.? You got it. They had attached the tags
on this AC50 with those things right thru the grill
cloth creating a couple of nifty holes and a lovely
new snag/sag!!! A freakin 1965 AC50!!
A very painful sight for me. I actually thought about
mentioning it to the manager but snapped out of it
just in time. Oh well, rave over.

The manager probably had one of those as a lip piercing, so wouldn't have understood what the big deal was.

Bill, the proper term for bagging on the pierced staff at GC is "chrome boogered". Try a search for the term just for the heck of it. Hehe!

Oh man... that must've hurt.... It wouldn't have made a difference anyway because the manager would have said "who cares? I get paid exactly the same regardless of how the stuff gets tagged here. Leave me alone"

My local Guitar Center must be the only one in the country run by a decent, conscientious staff.

Not the only one.

Warwick, RI has a (generally) great staff, management that seems to care.

Too bad there's not much in there for me.

On the other hand, most GCs I've been in (and I travel) are nightmares

My latest GC story...

Generally, I go to my local (Natick, MA) GC one a month or so to check out stuff. I'm a keyboardist primarily, but I do have a '72 MIM Tele Custom I bargained down to $300 (that's another story) because I fantasize that someday I might actually become proficient in guitar.

Anyway, I'm there on Saturday, itchin' with GAS, and they had a Boss GS-10 multi-effects box thingie (I don't have an amp, am generally record direct from guitar to PC) brand new, at a "clearance" price of $350. Well, impulsive guy I am, I get the thing. Then, before opening it, I look online at other prices. Sure enough, GC's parent, Musiciansfriend, is selling it brand new for $299.

So, next day, I bring it back with a copy of the MF page, and tear 'em a new one, and we go through a car dealer negotiation and they end up knocking the price of the one I got down to $275. And I can bring the thing back in 30 days if I don't like it...

We always check MF...

Before heading to GC for new gear. The guys I run with became hip to the deal a couple of years ago and we have had great success in bargaining on the store level. As a side note, don't shoot your foot off and always check local availability and current in store sales as we have also found some killer in store only deals that were not in the MF catalogs or on line. I have always found that I knew more about what I wanted than the kids at the store and did my research before entering the Devil's lair.

Yes..But,

They poked holes and hung stuff off a 40 yr. old
beautiful(was) Vox AC 50s grill that up to that point
had been pristine!!!!!
I suppose it could happen anywhere. It was like being
at the S.P.C.A.. I just wanted to rescue that puppy!
Hey, new sales technique? Who knows.

I felt exactly the same after seeing a gorgeous Ampeg Reverbrocket plastered into a wall at a local store that has been on business for a long time... The amp is in perfect working condition and I thought about my dear friend Nacho who would kill for an original one.

I talked to the owner, who's actually a great guy, and he told me "Yes, I'm sure it works perfectly. Everything is original because I got it brand new a pile of years ago but we decided not to sell it, just to keep it as a decorative item for the store. It surely looks cool"

Agrrrhhhh.... that amp is meant to be played, not "displayed"! It drives me nuts….
