And how did the subject of guitars come up with the pizza guy in the first place?
Had a couple theft rings around here going on for a few years. Nice neighborhoods too and people were really freaking out. One group was getting information from an inside clerk that would notify the bad guys when somebody would have certain services stopped for vacation. Yet another string was uncovered when it was determined the thefts followed the purchase and delivery of large flat screens. Guess what the thieves were taking? I don't even want the pizza guy to know I have guitars. If you're listing something and somebody calls (and you're home), of course, but the person doesn't see the studio. I wish it weren't so. |

Indeed. And with some not-so-implied racist assumptions, even.

I meet all delivery guys on the front porch. My Wife won't answer the door when I am not home unless it is her family. We live on the outskirts of a city in upstate NY, and although it is generally safe around here, there is no use asking for trouble. We have had thieves busted recently who case the joint as city officials to read the meter, etc.
And don't get me going about Robbies. I gew up in northern NJ, and although I picked up a few wonderful oddities there in the 1980's, the last visit a year ago will be my last for the reasons others have mentioned.

How far is the studio from the outside door?
It's not that I distrust people but I've never had a delievery guy of any kind walk very far into the house or start touching a bunch of our stuff. It seems a little odd to me. Usually the UPS guy or FedEx guy or even a food delivery guy will stay just outside the door or they'll stay right by the door if they come in for a moment. I think that there's a 4 foot "delivery guy zone" just inside the door where the delivery guy will wait for me to get my wallet or whatever. We have a cherry grand piano about 25 feet from the inside of the main door. It's in plain view from the entry way. I can't imagine the Chinese food delivery guy asking to jam on my piano. I don't think that I'm paranoid or protective but the delivery dudes that I'm used to always hang by the door and mind their own business. Seems a bit strange to me. I've helped my kids sell popcorn for Boyscouts or frozen pizzas for choir and I've never moved more than one foot from a potential customer's doorway. I always try to behave and respect their space. How far is the studio from the door?

I can't stand it anymore. I gotta ask the obvious question:
What kind of pizza?

Mike, thanks for the further details. Could have saved us some unnecessary posting!!
So this thread shows us that some of us are more cautious than others. Fearful? Not really. Just cautious. I'm sure most pizza delivery guys are not going to do anything to you or your spouse at the time of delivery. That being said, there are cases of delivery people or workers at a location who have personal issues that return to either burglarize or do other things to the occupants of homes they have serviced. Personally, I wouldn't purposefully open up my home to anyone without some previous knowledge of them(even that's not perfect). If I sell gear, it's in the garage before they arrive to try it out without seeing the layout of my crib. That's just the way I want to do things. If any of you do it differently, more power to you. I have no problem with it.
