"Trains, Plains & Automobiles." It's got a cheeseball sentimental ending, but has a wealth of flat-out hilarious moments.

I wanted to like "Trainspotting," but I simply wasn't entertained. A glamorization of dirty junkies wrapped in a cautionary tale. Or is it the other way around? Anyway... if you want to watch a movie about loser heroin addicts, "Drugstore Cowboy" is much better.

I disagree completely! I don't think it glamorizes heroin at all, that withdrawel scene alone is haunting enough to override any "coolness" they may give it. How about when he OD's, or when he desperately fishes suppositories out of that truly disgusting toilet, or when they find the baby dead, due to neglect, or when one of the characters is dying of AIDS.. does that Glamorize it?
Sure some of the characters are likeable, but then the have to be in order to make the film entertaining. IMO Trainspotting is one of the most anti-drug films out there and an excellent film.

To be honest, I haven't seen the film in years, so my memories aren't that specific. (I bought it LaserDisc, for some reason.) My feeling (or the memory thereof) is that it still manages to glamorize the heroin experience in spite of the grittiness and harrowing scenes. Personally, I can think of one heroin film that didn't glamorize the experience at all, and that's "Panic in Needle Park," but it's been even longer since I've seen that one.

I certainly think it was well-made, but I wasn't moved or entertained. For instance, the coming out of the toilet thing was interesting, but in the end it felt like a self-consciously "cool scene" in a "Being John Malkovich" sort of way.
