I don't know why so many people are putting Iron Maiden on their list... Why be ashamed of liking them?

Depeche Mode. Maybe my all-time favorite band. no kidding. In fact, I'm a HUGE fan of electronic based music (not techno or dance). Also really did Kraftwerk, Heaven 17, etc.

No shame here. Music I love:
Abba
Frank Mills (Music Box Dancer)
Chuck Mangione
Any of the 70's Arena Rockers such as:
Styx
REO Speedwagon
Kansas
Lots of the 80's Hair Metal such as:
Poison
Motley Crue
Also, Van Halen with Dave or Sammy
I even have Diamond Dave's first two solo albums and lots of Sammy's solo stuff.
Bob Seger, though I don't know what there is to be ashamed of.
I could go on...

Hey! I like them a lot!

Hard to believe no one has mentioned my particular guilty pleasure:

The Partridge Family

Okay, only two songs by them: "I Think I Love You" and "I Woke Up In Love This Morning".

What possible defense can I offer? Well, both songs are catchy as heck! And the whole ersatz Cowsills thing was just so funny/bad.

...and I kinda dig the Cowsills, too! These days, Susan Cowsill (she was the little girl) is actually a great singer, as a listen to any of the Continental Drifters CDs will show...

Cheers, Tim

Come to the dark side, Dave!

I think it boils down to when we grew up. You form your favorite memories when certain music was playing and that stays with you for life.

As for the Peaveys? Well, my first amp was a blackface Bassman. My second amp was a Peavey Bravo. I no longer have the Bassman but I have three Bravos.

I'll join in!

Well, I like them, but my wife and friends make fun of me for liking them, but two of my "closet" favs are:

Mr. Big & White Lion! I'm no metal player, but I do enjoy the playing of Vito Bratta and Paul Gilbert. They had a different style to their playing.

Maybe it's because I was a high schooler in the '80s, but I like Duran Duran a lot. And you're right about "Ordinary World." I love that song.

Electronic music--you bet! Are we not men? We are DEVO! Seriously, DEVO is one of my favorite bands. I guess I'm not supposed to like them, so they're an apt choice for this thread.

And while I'm at it, I love Nine Inch Nails, Fatboy Slim, and Pizzicato Five, too. I love acid jazz, too, like Medeski, Martin, and Wood. Any kind of electronic music really fascinates me. Unlike emisilly, that includes industrial, techno, and even dance electronica. I guess I'm just a closet synth player and/or a mix DJ. :P

Big John Denver fan here

I like ...
Grateful Dead
Jefferson Airplane
New Riders of the Purple Sage
Merle Haggard
Roy Buchanan
and...

John Denver!

Rocky Mountain High still makes me play several "air" instuments...guitar / bass / pedal steel.

(Still have my down vest as well)

I got into Kraftwerk about six years ago. I especially like to listen to their music while writing. I explored other vintage "techno" bands, but they didn't do for me.

"Are we not men? We are DEVO!!!"

And for you alleged Monkees fans, you're all a buncha punks. I saw them LIVE at the Boston Garden during their first tour! My dad took me and it traumatized him for the rest of his life...

Katrina and the Waves

One of the most clever sets I ever heard a radio DJ put together:

*Walkin' on Sunshine by K and the W
*You Can't Hurry Love by the Supremes
*Heart by Rockpile
*Town Called Malice by the Jam

Bad, bad, bad...

Nik Kershaw. Specifically, his first cd. I drunkenly poved to my wife a short while back that I could remember all the words. I also love the guitar solo on 'Wouldn't It Be Good'.

Over here in Belgium almost anything country is considered kinda 'wrong", but over here I guess nobody will frown when I confess that I like country music.

I bought the John 5 cd and I really like it!

If he did it today, he could add the entire Strokes song list. The formula for every one of their songs -- start with the "You Can't Hurry Love" beat, then have the rhythm guitarist play barre chords up around the 8th fret, then tell the bass player not to play any low notes.
