CHUCK PROPHET....
..is a god amongst men. Saw him for only the second time in 10 yrs on Tuesday. Cool demeanour, great songs (from witty to touching and back), good band, fantastic (and tasteful) guitar playing - I guess these are all the reasons why he is not incredibly successful.

seeing him
tomorrow (my birthday - ideal birthday gig!)
Interestingly, the "links" section on my band's site (we opened for Chuck once) has him described - by me! - as "a god among men". So that's two of us saying that: it MUST be true! GREAT player/singer/writer! |

Chuckie
Iain - just saw him at a pokey little club called St Bonaventures in Bristol. 2 hrs of full-bore Chuck. Last time I saw him was at Glasto on the Feast of Hearts tour, so it's been a while. My only complaint was that there wasn't anything really from Homemade Blood (my favourite). Seemed to concentrate on Age of Miracles and No Other Love. But what a sound from that tele!
PS - the support act - Mark Mallman - is extremely cool. |

King Tut's
Fabulous gig!
I've seen him every time he tours here, and he's always great. As you said, mainly more recent stuff, but all rocking and tremendous playing and passion. Tut's is a somewhat "cosy" venue, like the Bristol one. |

pedals
I'm pretty sure it was a Buddha Bud-Wah. It had a purple housing and chrome pedal. Was also using a Dunlop tremolo pedal.
Chuck once againproved the point that you don't need a 100w amp to get a big rock tone - just a good PA. |

I've got a bone to pick with Chuck. He doesn't gig smart enough on his home turf. The guy lives in the San Francisco Bay Area yet chooses to play California gigs in the middle of freaking nowhere. If he plays in the City it's usually just a few songs as part of a benefit gig or the recent Bay Area Gram Parsons tribute.
I'd gladly drive three or four hours and get a room to see Chuck's show but he plays these little hole in the wall towns like Buellton, or Pt. Reyes Station that are at least another hour from LA or 'Frisco. If the guy'd just load up that van he keeps telling us about on his website, there are lots of clubs here in CA where he could build up a strong regional following and he wouldn't even have to drive as far. I think Chuck is probably as big a star as he wants to be.
