Thanks for that Tommyboy ........ now don't go giving her ideas now !!

I'll send a nice new, shiny John Stannard guitar pick to anyone who can decipher what was painted up on that wall though !, looks like there is a name there and it might be neat to repaint it (as long as it doesn't say anything rude like G*bson or Str*toc*ster).
We are in Cuba, Missouri at present waiting for my junk to turn up from the UK and have already found some stuff to put in the place:
A PEACH of an original 1950's Schwinn fixed wheeler
2 Pedal tractors
1 pedal car
1 Model T (not Tele) wooden wheel and tyre
A soapbox racer
A Chevelle motor
A radio flyer
.................... and tomorrow we are going to a m/cycle wreckers !!

Man, you can sure tell that you are in Texas.

Your place is just perfect! Just keep the front doors locked or you'll have locals (or tourists.....there are tourists, aren't there, if not, there will be after you two move in?!!) walking in at 8:00 a.m....or at 3:00 a.m. after Lois & Jerry's closes!

This house (and my husband) are sincerely a dream come true for me...being able to crank a tweed amp up and get loud and silly, rowdy and rambunctious...dream come true. Being close to Austin without dealing with the hustle and bustle of Austin...not dealing with HORRIBLE traffic just to grab a burger or hit a grocery store...it's peaceful and calm just like my hometown in the Ozarks.

All of that plus getting to practice once a week with my own band (our first gig is in March - the hot rod show at Top Notch) and watching Johnnie grin like a little kid as he stands behind a Telecaster playing Texas shuffles, bending strings like my own personal Danny Gatton...*swoon* ...I'm a happy girl. Can you guys all get over here so I can hug on you?

I am not familiar with Bartlett, but I used to know San Marcos, Fredericksburg, Bastrop, Bandera, Hillsboro, and Seguin. The little Hill Country towns are great!!
You guys have chosen a great area to set up your nest.

Bartlett is north of Elgin and Granger, kind of north east of Round Rock, flat, arable land kind of like where I'm from -- only a million times BIGGER !!
We'll definitely have an 'open door' policy for TDPRIers, just let us know so we can lock up the guitars first !!! :-)

Not near as much moss though, eh, John?
I remember flying into RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk in 1977 to start a 2 yr tour in the UK.
Looking down at East Anglia, after living in Texas and Colorado, I was awestruck by how GREEN it was.

If you get used to the heat and make it through your first summer ok, you will do fine.
South Central Texas has a rich and wonderful mix of history and multi-national cultures.
Get to know the history, visit Goliad, San Jacinto, and the Alamo. The 7 Missions of San Antonio. Slide over to Gruene and catch Tish Hinojosa at Gruene Hall.
One of the cool things we used to do when I was a 16 y/o kid living in Bexar County was what we called "ride to eat". We had a group of about 10 or 12 motorcyclists. Each Friday, we would pick a restaurant, fish fry, spaghetti feed, that sort of thing in the surrounding area. The 2 caveats were it had to be less than 100 mile round trip, and reasonably priced. We found some great lil dives, and some of the best deals were the weekly VFD fish fry or BBQ's. It's a fun way to get to know the country side, and surrounding communities when you are new to an area.

Am planning on going drag racing later on with our own gtrjones and getting more into the hot rod/bike scene, if only I had the money !!

I bet some old timer around there knows what was up there and I'm sure there are some old pictures lying around. I think it would be great if you recreated it. It would spruce up the place and help give the neighborhood a nice vibe. Just be ready for every Tom, Dick and Harry knocking on your door wanting to come into Joe's Hardware or whatever the sign says.

I bet a visit to the photo editor at the local newspaper might come up with some old ad copy shots or some old stock shots of what occupied the space at one time or another.
The other place to look might be the County Court House. Should be past records of ownership, taxes, business licenses etc..
It looks to me like there have been multiple sets of signage on those ol' bricks over the years.

[Smart-arse alert ] Especially since Fezz got the Union Flag mostly the wrong way round (flipped left to right – except for one corner )...
