Jeez. This sounds like a partial set list for my garage band.

Last week, we did "I Am the Walrus," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" and "The Letter." We've done "King of the Road" and "Shakin' All Over."

I've thought of suggesting "16 Tons," but I don't know if I could pull it off vocally, nor do I think the other guys would go for it. But I threw out "Milk & Alcohol" by Dr. Feelgood last week and they went for it with gusto, even though none of them had ever heard it before (had to move it up a step for me).

I also thought of "Junior's Farm," but I don't think it's on their radar. What I'd really like to do is the opening medley from "Wings Over America": "Venus & Mars/Rock Show/Jet."

We do that in a sort of Stray Cats style.
Works a treat. Vocals don't have to be that amazing if the band gets the vibe, and it's fantastic for long jazzy soloing in the middle.

When I was young..my folks would take me to cafe/truckstop that was local. My first selection at the juke box would be this; the lion sleeps tonight.

My sister used to wait tables there, maybe thats why we patronized the joint; this would of been by second choice, though I sure did'nt know/understand the messege in this song, Behind closed doors.

Thanks for the thread

Mine would be "Let Me Be" by the Turtles. That was my anthem in seventh grade. Runners up would be Byrds B-Sides, "She Don't Care About Time" or "It Won't Be Wrong." Gene Clark at his best.

We do "So You Want to Be a Rock & Roll Star" and "Feel a Whole Lot Better."

WOW!!!

That's the one that sprang to my mind when I read Blazer's thread title. Whenever I hear it, I'm back there- sitting in the cab of my older brother's semi waiting to get loaded off the wharf at Fremantle. I fell in love with the sea (or at least the idea of going to sea) right at that moment. Didn't run off and join the Navy, though...

Then you all tuned into my Badfinger thing.

Quicksilver "Have another Hit of Fresh Air". Wanting to try that one, already been doing "Pride of Man" for quite a while.

The first three songs that came to mind.

Here's a song I haven't heard since I was a kid. Forgot all about it until I heard it on a radio station while I was traveling about a couple of months ago:

I always thought an acoustic version of this would be great:

And this oldie but mouldy:

A bunch of folks have found this one to be worth covering...
I think that is probably understating the case somewhat...

I loved everything about this song except Jello Biafra's god - awful voice. Punk / surf - tastic song that should be covered by someone with a decent voice.

okay, so I've been working on this with a friend of mine, songs from our youth that influenced us....

When I was 10 yrs old this song came out named, "She Loves You", on the radio and for some reason, I was smitten by it because I already had girlfriends. The song became wildly popular and then the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. So, that was the beginning of my love affair with the Beatles music.... so, we covered She Loves You recently.

She Loves You - (cover)

We've done 12 Beatles songs so far, we have about 4 more in the works.

Let me be clear, I don't want a great singer to sing it. Just someone whose voice is not as grating as Jello's. Although, Michael Bolton belting it out does appeal to me as a train wreck worth listening to.

what i'm suggesting is that if Jello hadn't sung the song, we probably wouldn't even know it ever existed... and if he hadn't sounded just as he sounded... the same goes for the DK's
