R.I.P. Jerry Byrd

I just read that Jerry Byrd passed away this morning (4/11/05) ...he just turned 85 last month.

Jerry invented the C6th tuning that lap steelers use...plus alot of others..he also did session work for a number of people, including Hank Williams.

Tribute on steelradio.com

We've lost another giant. :-(

From the thread in the Steel Guitar Forum:

"JERRY BYRD's fabulous steel guitar and a host of unheard instrumentals can now be heard all day today courtesy of Michael Scott and SteelRadio.com. These are from Michael's personal collection and are being offered at random, no complete albums are being done at one time."

Click on www.steelradio.com to hear some of this timeless music. RIP Jerry Byrd. – CS

He was the Segovia of the steel guitar. Didn't he give up country to play Hawaiian music?
Play sweetly in heaven Mr. Byrd.
