New Beck CD -- Guero

I have to admit, even though Beck is pretty different than anything else I listen to I really have enjoyed his previous 4 CDs. Yesterday I got his new CD "Guero" and it's another great CD. Unlike just about every other "new" artist I'm amazed by his ability to consistantly create new and exciting music that I just have to listen to over and over and over.

Any of you listening to this and lovin' it?

bumped into my old English teacher the other day and he recommended it...two recommendations is enough merit to look into it.

I am

Ya I like the new record a lot, I have always been a fan but I have to say that Sea Change was really the killer one for me. Guero is a great chill party record, get some wine, some good friends on a late night, and throw that on in the backround, mmm its turning my teeth purple just thinking about it.

Yeah, Beck continues to amaze me at how good he is at making great catchy songs which after they've finished leave everyone in the room arguing over what the lyrics actually were.

Especially liking E-Pro

Is Lyle Workman playing on it? I don't know too much about him but what I've heard I'm already a fan.

Just got home with it

I just picked up GUERO and am loading it into the computer as I type. As an old fart, I find it hard to keep up with a lot of the music that is out there today, but I have been a Beck fan from the beginning. I haven't heard this new one (give me a few more minutes), but it sure has gotten good reviews.

I think Beck will be one of those artists who is mentioned in rock history books as a person who had a great deal of influence on the music of his generation. He's one of the few artists I'd really like to meet - I wish I would have had him as a student in one of my classes.

OK - it's loaded - time to give it a listen!

I like him. I have the Seachange CD. Very good stuff.

I put a song on Garageband.com and was accused of being a Lo-Fi Beck.. Little did they know that that was a complement to me!

Agreed, J-man. I love Beck's music and production; however, his stream-of-consciousness/Dadaist lyrics leave me feeling a bit hollow. But, hey--art is subjective.

Saw him play it some tracks live last week...

His guitar? A vintage Silvertone. Just knocked me out! A few days later, I bought the expanded Guero package, which includes the CD and a DVD offering videos, photos and 5.1 surround mixes.

Great stuff!

my wife got me "Midnite Vultures" for Christmas a few years back. Didn't think I'd like it at first. There was a thread awhile back about favorite new music from the last ten years, and that's at the top of my list. I haven't gotten bored listening to it. Must get more Beck.

I really liked "Midnight Vultures" too, and then I loved "Mutations," get that one if you don't have it. I really liked "Sea Change" though some thought it too blue and dark for their tastes. He had a big break-up with his wife or girlfriend and so "Sea Change" is his break-up CD. I find it beautiful and touching.

This new one is more similar to "Odelay" which if you don't have that one you should get it too. Both "Odelay" and "Guero" are more "hip hop" sounding with samples and "beats" but certainly not hip hop. Becks musicality comes through loud and clear.

I think Cake is what Beck should be.

Paul, you've surprised me again!

We all seem to more eclectic (read Schizophrenic) in our musical tastes than we let on sometimes participating in a forum dedicated to The Tele - usually acssociated with the Twangy side of life. It's great to find such music junkies, not just Teleholics, among us here at the TDPRI. I can demonstrate this personally by stating I just got the new Beck for my birthday, along with the new Los Super 7, new QOTSA and the Notorious Cherry Bombs. (Yes, I refuse to be pigeon-holed!)

Beck is the new Frank Zappa...completely dancing to his own drummer and following his muse all the while quietly influencing the music world. Yes the lyrics are hard to follow sometimes, but then sometimes they are quite literal like most of Sea Change and Mutations. For someone who started as a theatrical/performance artist, Beck Hanson has grown into an amazing musical artist creating very unique art - in this or any other time.

I have been turned on to alot of music here at the TDPRI and for that again, I thank you Paul for the forum.

For those of you that haven't checked out Beck because of "I'm a Loser baby" turning you off, I urge you to reconsider and dive into this latest effort. It has a bit of all his "styles" mixed in and is sonically a treat hear if not actually listen to .

Yeah, that was one of the reasons why I was apprehensive listening to Beck at first. And, I must shamefully admit, I was caught up in the whole Beck/Jeff Beck name comparison. How silly…
That would be like me not listening to any Yes albums because Chris Squire has the same last name as Billy Squier and I didn’t like Billy Squier.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO glad Beck made another Beck record. I really enjoyed the early stuff, untill midnight vultures. It was just a little too "funny" for me. Aaaaargh! then Mutations and Sea Change! i was bored after a couple listens.

now BECK IS BACK!!!!
