What is the best soft case for a Les Paul?
What is the best soft case (not a gig bag) for a Les Paul? I see all of these jazz guys throwing their ES-175's into some type of soft case and wearing them over their shoulders. I suppose I should ask someone next time I see one! Any of you guys have one? Link?
Thanks. __________________

I'd recommend an inexpensive one--that way you'll have money left over for the headstock repair.

Les Paul soft case, hard case just in case
What kind of case for a Les Paul??
Assuming it's new, the replacement value is around $900 bucks Cdn. I'd suggest a flight case like the ones that the professionals use. I agree with tiktok's post also. |

Seriously--out of all the people I know who've had serious damage done to their guitars, only one was in hard case. All the others were soft cases, or guitars leaning against amps/couches.
Just the other night I was playing in a club, and beforehand our gear and the other act's were in the "performance corner" area. Three guitars together on the floor--mine in a hard case, my partner's in a hard case, and the other act's, in a black softcase. The soundguy walks by to do something and manages to kick the guitar in the softcase, probably because it's dark and in the back of his mind it's "cases on the floor--no need for extreme caution". Oof. I know Ritchie Fiegler advocates the soft case, because then he knows he has to keep it near him, not in the trunk or sitting around the club. At some point though, you're going to set the thing down, and that's when the trouble starts. I never feel comfortable with a Gibson in a non-hard case.

While I would never put a Gibson in a soft case, I do it with Fenders as I don't worry about the headstock with those.
While on this subject, does anyone make a light thermoplastic case (like the fender alligator one) for Les Pauls style Guitars? richard |

The best soft cases are from InCase. Hands down. I own one.
website: www.goincase.com Only problem is... they're more expensive than most hard cases even! At $199. They use this soft/hard technology and got everything covered. BUT, like most people on this topic, I would never use a soft case for my LP. I've already had one headstock repair. (not cos of the case.. it fell off the guitar stand)... but anyhow, getting it repaired sucks. But the repair only cost me about $35. No refinish though. The biggest problem about the design of the LP is the headstock angle. I honestly don't think that any soft case can adequetly protect it. I use an SKB hard case for my LP. At about $90... I think it's worth it. |

I've seen pictures of B.B. in Airport Terminals with his Lucille in a gig bag - BUT that's B.B. - if anything happened I'm pretty sure Henry would get another to
him PFQ. If anything happened to mine I'd get a list of authorized Gibson dealers.
