Anyone up for a 'Thursday morning weight loss club'?

OK this may be lame and done before but I definitely need to lose a few pounds this year and working alone from home I don't have colleagues to join in with. Nor do I really want to do it the the very public environment of Facebook.

Anyone want to join me? If we each weigh ourselves every Thursday morning and post our weight it may give us some motivation and 'we are not alone' type encouragement. I did this once before when I did have colleagues and together we all lost a pound or two on average each week.

We could start at our individual baseline weights and post the number of pounds lost (or gained) each week if people want to keep their actual weight a secret!

No worries if this is of no interest but I'd thought I'd ask at my favourite place online before seeking other avenues.

(And please, no gags about routing under the pickguard to lose weight!)

I would be up for joining you. Three years ago I went on a serious mission to lose weight and get healthy. I lost over thirty pounds, and felt great. I've now got most of it back, and don't feel so great.

So yeah, I'm in if it gets rolling. heck, even if it's just two of us, we could do it via PM or something. I totally agree that having somebody to work with (even in the virtual realm) makes it way easier staying on task and getting results.

I'd be in starting in a week or two, I'm still using a walker after surgery so can't get to the scale in the pantry - my back surgeon definitely wants me lighter so....

Not a bad idea; I began my annual post-holiday campaign on Sunday. Will try to keep an eye on this topic tomorrow.

I'm to lazy to join a club but I've lost 30lb before and several times more recently 15 and 20lbs on various low carb diets. It doesn't seem to matter which one as I've done Atkins, GI and Dukan variations with similar good weight loss effects. Given how hard/slow it is to absorb fibre and/or protein I never feel like picking. When I want to lose weight I give up alcohol, potatoes, pasta, bread, rice, sweets and milk (probably forgotten a few) and the weight just drops off.

I'm a fundamentally lazy bum so I usually drift back to the bad stuff with predictable results and then need to go back on the diet but at an absolute worst I keep 75-80% of my original weight off and have done for the past 5 years. FWIW I'm on the diet again now with a view to shedding a few pounds post Xmas/New Year.

YMMV and all that but my cholesterol always seems to drop after being on these diets too which can't be bad. When I lost my biggest amount (30lbs) it went down from 6.4 to 4.6. The nurse taking it refused to believe I had spent 6 months eating greasy English breakfasts (no fried bread!) and pretty much chucked me out of the clinic.

Oh and it's very expensive on the wallet as I had to chuck out all my clothers after too.

Keep at whatever diet you start. You can do it!

Hope this info is useful - last year I went from 18 to 13.5 stone (my ideal weight) by stopping eating processed food and instead eating a lot of fresh stuff with salad and fruit. Also been watching how much carbs I put it (changed from bread to Ryvita for example).
I thought weight loss would be a big deal, but it wasn't, I just changed what I ate ... and now don't enjoy unhealthy stuff anymore.
Worked really well for me.

I envy you guys that can just drop the pounds. My body doesn't work like that.

When I lost my 30 pounds, I changed my diet completely. I cut way back on carbs, stopped eating candy, and most importantly stopped drinking soda, which I was basically living on. I quit eating fast food which I was also eating at least two meals a day (greasy burgers and such) and started eating REALLY healthy.

Over the course of almost a year on the new diet, I lost 4-5 pounds.

I then started a heavy exercise regimen, and the weight dropped like crazy. My new diet, plus serious exercise, and I POURED off pounds. But diet by itself did pretty much nothing for my weight. It gave me a ton more energy, and helped my brain work better. I felt pretty much 1000% different, in a good way, after eating right for around 6-8 weeks. But I didn't really lose any weight until I started heavy exercise. Lucky for me, I enjoy that sort of thing.

I'm in. I started dieting on Monday and I'm hoping to loose 30+ lbs by the end of March.

I started at 230# - I'd like to see 199# (or less) on the scale.

The last time I tried this I got down to 205# and then started eating burgers again.

I'm at 242 right now and want to get down to 199. I used to be at 267, so I have already lost 25 pounds, with 43 more to go. I am doing it with a mix of watching what and how much I eat, and exercise.

I need to drop about 10 or 15 lbs by the end of February. I'd play along until then.

I have already lost about 50 lbs since last April. I've almost reached my goal.

Lost 40lbs last year with a no sugar, no carbs except rice diet.Gained 20 back after I quit smoking but I'm game. Lets do this!!! I'm 5.10 and 200lb's today. I need to get down to 180. I feel really good at that weight, I actually got down to 170 but looked a little anemic at that weight. All my weight is in my gut.

Yeah I'm in.

I'm at 239 lbs now at 6ft 1.
Would like to get down around 200.

My method is going to be following a "mostly" paleo diet, 4-5 trips to the gym per week and only drinking a couple of alcoholic drinks a week.
Going to give myself one day a week where I loosen the reins a bit so I don't go crazy.

224. Shooting for Under 200 by March.

Keep up the good work! Scooter waiting to hear from you! I just had shoulder surgery and it was not a fun time. I can only imagine what back surgery was like. But no doubt about it , lighter body will help all around.
