My workday....
I'm on a 15 day tour, doing Helivac standby right now. Normally, I work away from home (8 days on-8days off), so I don't get to go home till until my tour ends. But for the last 2 weeks, I've been stationed at one of the Helicopter bases in town, which means, not only do I get to go home every night, but we've only done 2 flights since January at this base...we ain't exactly overworked!!! (lol)
I'm given quarters in the crew house, my own bathroom, bed,TV, and full access to kitchen ,ect, AND the Pilots are cool t'boot. Here's the daily routine; 0500-Get up ( at home..in my own bed !!) make coffee, feed cats while coffee brews. Visit TDPRI...drink coffee/have smoke. Shower, dress, make wife's breakfast. 0600- Grab Tele...out the door. 0615- confirm weather conditions suitable for flight, comfirm w/ dispatcher. Make pot of Coffee. Check gear, BS w/ Pilots. 0630- have 3rd cup of coffee, go to room, turn on DRRI and warm up tubes, turn on CNN, drink Coffee, Tune Tele if nessesary. 0635- warm up w/ scales, wait for a call 0700- warmed up, more coffee,Play Tele 0900- nose through whatever guitar tab/method books I took that day. Keep waiting for a call 0905-play Tele 1100- Do some reading, call the Mrs at work 1130-play Tele, watch dvd's 1500- Re-tune if nessesary, keep playing Tele, more dvd's 1630- Determine whether or not suficent daylight remains for flight, if so....more Tele...if not...go home This has been my routine since March 13th, the first week was all OT cause those were my days off, the last 8 is just straight time. This routine goes out the window of course if a call for a flight comes in. As bored as I am, I can't really complain, I'm getting paid to play my guitar and wait for somthing to happen!! Normally, we're constantly doing Flights/Ground calls. Lot's of patients, lots of calls. The boredom IS getting to me a bit. But I DO get to see the Mrs every night. Thank you for reading about my Tele working vacation at home!! (lol) CHEERS!!!
