Help me identify some music please
This is driving me nuts. The music at the end of this Nyquil commercial, with Lovie Smith... starts at about 0:22 in the clip. It's from a movie that I've seen many times I think.. but I just can't place it. I think the movie both started and ended with this music.
Anyone?

It instantly reminded me of this:
It's not quite the same, but it may be an original piece made for the ad that took inspiration from that song (or one of the other versions).

Not the same, but reminds me of the theme to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Composed by Jon Brion, one of my favorite contemporary score composers.

Could it be from a Coen Bros. movie? It sounds kinda Carter Burwell-ish.

I even thought maybe it was from A Beautiful Mind, but that's not it either. If I'm remembering correctly, maybe the movie was one of those that the main character seemingly simplistic on the surface, yet the storyline was more complex. Maybe a Forrest Gump sort of character? I think I remember the outro being similar to Gump, where the camera sort of fades up and the character gets smaller and smaller? But don't let that throw you off... I may be wrong about that. But I know I've heard it as the outro of a movie that I've seen quite often. I scanned my movie collection, but didn't see anything that fit.

It was probably created just for the commercial. The NyQuil ads usually have a known song at the beginning, and each ad has a different song. But then many of them end with that same lullaby theme.
On the other hand, it also kind of sounds like something from a Spielberg or Disney film.

Probably not what you're looking for, but..
The melody in the first few bars sounds like a variation of this, but I don't know what movie; if any, it was in: And The Band Played On Another variation of the first few bars of the melody from the movie "Up". |

There are some very close examples that you guys have posted. I don't think it was something produced specifically for that commercial, but I could be wrong about that.
What I have learned is that my question is not an uncommon one, if you check Google and some other search sites. Curiously, of the several dozen "hits" from people asking this same question around the web, there is not one single response that claims to be definitive. And I'm guessing that this thread itself will soon become a top search result for this question.

Whether or not it was written specifically for the commercial, it definitely is paying off marketing-wise. We're all watching the commercial over and over again trying to figure it out.

Sounds to me like the old barbershop quartet staple "Casey Would Waltz With the Strawberry Blonde, and the Band Played On."

My brain just game me more information. Going on this whole premise that my memory is serving me correctly:
I'm now remembering a female operatic voice entering after an intro, in a language other than English (of course). Her vocal line seems to follow the basic melody of that woodwind we're hearing (oboe?). I can't remember any more specifics about the movie that this *might* be in.
