GM Tech Help-Buick battery removal

Only upside is not on the road for Turkey Day.

Google search didn't provide any answers other than generic.

Car is a 2005 Buick Lacrosse.

Removed the round tube body brace over the battery, and the battery cables.

The issue I'm having is not enough room to maneuver the battery out from under the fender to front body work.

It's worse than a tight fit.

Any insight 'preciated.

Not sure about the LaCrosse, but I've heard of some GMs that you have to remove the fuse block. I think there are two nuts that hold it in, and you can then move it a bit.

Ugh,

Yes, had to move the fuse block housing, and turn the batt on end to remove.

Certifiable PIA.

I have to say there isn't much room...I have a 96 Buick Century and when I replaced mine last summer I banged my hands up pretty good. I had to pull that cross member out of the way and as I remember there was a hose to the air cleaner or something or other I disconnected or had to shove out of the way as well. The hold-down nut at the bottom is a pita to reach and the damn nuts on the battery connections have no space for a normal sized dudes hands to fumble about with. I was glad I have the smalled .25 ratchet wrench and extensions for the 3/8's drive. Once everything was disconnected and I was bleeding enough...it had to be rocked and twisted out...which I promptly forgot how to do when I came home from Wally World with the new battery. I did get back in though, if you have a stock radio it may need to be re-coded and if you ain't got the code you MAY have to remove the radio...good luck I was glad when I was done and rewarded myself with several liquid refreshments

Modern automobiles are designed to be put together and shoved out the door. Very little thought is given to maintenance.

If you want to see a real PITA to work on, look at an F-16. Everything about it looks like it's easy to get to and work on until you start doing it. Most fighters are tight, but this one takes the cake. I wonder how many gallons of blood I lost working on those things.

I had a 1991 Nissan 240SX that I needed to clean the idle air control on. I used every single fighter-fixing trick I ever knew to get that thing out and reinstall it. It was located on the back side of the engine, under the intake manifold and within an inch of the firewall. Not fun!

I empathize with the OP on his problem. Glad he solved it. I no longer work on cars unless I have no other choice and can do it easily and simply.

Gotta wait till tomorrow to buy a battery, then the fun to install begins.

I think I better close the garage door to work on it.

Scared the neighborhood old lady walkers using colorful tech language today.

To say I was "fumigated" today would be an understatement.

Just as bad installing. Least I wont have to do that for several years.

Next up is pulling a front headlamp assy. Got a marker lamp out.

This is another disassemble job. Done it before and it ain't pretty.

Have the annual safety inspection next month, and need the annual to renew tags.

I rather play my Teles.

my le saber has the battery under the back seat. You just pop the cushion off the seat and bam, little did they know they've been sitting on the source of power for my car all along =P

I hate that!

My wife had an Oldsmobile Intrigue a few years ago . The car still had the factory battery in it when we got it and, and you had to remove a brace/crossmember under the hood just to add water to the battery... I'm not even talking about removing the battery... I'm just talking about adding water. What a horrible design.

The battery is on the left, under the black brace, then under the cross member:


Plus that car burned up turn signal and day-time-running light bulbs... like... every week almost. It became a joke with us that we still laugh about... cause every-single-time we see one of those cars on the road now, there is a day-time-running light that is burned out.
