Pickup ID? (Gretsch content - sorta)
So, I've really seriously got my eye on this thing but I can't figure out what sort of pickups those are. The seller identifies them as "dynasonic," but I'm under the impression that the dynasonics are single-coils with a somewhat different appearence. Then I'm thinking filtertron, but part of me thinks that they might just be some budget thing that Gretsch slapped in this budget guitar.
I'm also not totally convinced of the seller's ID of the guitar itself, but it's not far off if at all, and the seller is a good guy, so I'm not too bothered. Whatever it is, it's a budget Gretsch, and I've played enough of those to know that most are still excellent.

"Dyna, won't you blow your horn?"
I'm afraid those are just exposed-pole full-sized "PAF" humbuckers. I've seen a number of Korean-made Gretsches here(mostly pseudo-Elliot Easton sig models) that had those on it, and then a few weeks back met a (high school-aged)kid at church with a red one, saying his grandfather owns a factory that builds those things (from what I know, all of the Historic models except for the MIJ Ranchers are made here), much to my surprise. The sounds (mud switch off, of course) were rather uneventful in all p'up positions, very reminiscent of Korean Epi LPs, although there seemed to be more "meat" on the bridge side of things. I'm sure the "Cat-eye" one you posted would be a different tone ticket for sure, but rest assured those are NOT singles~ That finish, however, is one I've never seen, and would certainly grab my attention, especially if you took things into your own hands and called up TV Jones for an order and threw on some real PAF-sized Filtertrons...OR go Phat Cats and do a quasi-Casino! Anyway, me babbling again.... Peace 'n' Seoul Cindi |

Yeah. I was worried about that. I tried out an absolutely stunning Streamliner in white with a Bigsby that had the singles, and it was a dream. I love those cat's eye f-holes, but I kinda want something that's got a real live Gretsch vibe, even if it's an el-cheapo piece. Not being able to drop in a set of FilterTron-sized TV Jones pups is a real downer. I'm really gonna have to think about whether this is something I want to do.
BTW, the finish reminds me of Billy Zoom's Duo Jet that he played for most of X's tenure as the kings of crazy punkabilly rock. Hmmm... What to do... Thanks a lot for the info though. I appriciate it. Even though the seller is pretty local to me, he's a mail-order guy, so I can't just go browse whenever I want, even though he's pretty personable. You've been a big help.
