I'm posting here since no one seems to

read the Stomp Box site.

Got myself an ElectroHarmonix Small Stone Phaser.

When in the chain and not engaged, it significantly reduces the volume of the signal?!?!

Any particluar reason?

I'm guessing it's not true bypass. There's probably a mod for that.

I think the problem may have been with your post title in the Stomp Box forum.

You titled it "Got my Electroharmonix Smallstone Phaser".

Unless someone was really interested in general Smallsone talk, which is what the topic sounds like to me, they wouldn't even have clicked open the post and discovered you were asking for help with a problem.

Your post title here doesn't give much info either; I'm sure a lot of people are skipping it because it's too vague. I almost did, but the vagueness actually got my curiosity.

Cheers
Matt

I agree. When I see a thread with a particularly "blind" title, like "Have any of you guys ever..." or "What do you think of this?" I often think to myself, "No, I never have" or "Not much" and move on to the next thread... (In fact, I really only looked at this thread because I thought to myself, "Actually, a LOT of people post here. I wonder what he's talking about?") ;-) CS

Lots of people post here. 8)

Anyway, yeah. Your thread titles aren't really indicative of anything, so lots of people probably blew off your post in the Stompbox forum. In fact, a lot of people get peeved about titles like that. You should edit that thread title to reflect why you are posting, what you are asking, etc. You would likely then get more responses.

When I saw:

I thought, um, congratulations? :?

Hahaha - one answer to his question, and 3 responses telling him how he should have asked it differently. What are we changing a lightbulb here?

To explain true bypass, we'll look at a non true bypass pedal - basically when the pedal is off but still in the chain, the signal still goes through the components (that's why the battery dies when you leave it plugged in even if you're not using it), and while the components aren't actively trying to change the signal (like when the pedal is on), it still has an effect on it.

With a true bypass pedal, when the pedal is off, the signal bypasses the circuits of the pedal, and retains a trueness to the outgoing tone.

Again, there are probably mods out there that show you how this can be done to a pedal. Some expensive pedals come like this already.

Doesnt qualify as a light bulb.

Nah, from another post, it says it takes 10 guitarists to change a light bulb: 1 to actually change it, and 9 to say, "not bad, but I could do better"

I may be one of the biggest offenders of the "vague/squirelly/what-the?" subject headings on this board, and I have just determined, that sometimes we post a thread/topic, that just goes 'klunk', while others shoot into the stratosphere!

Also, one other question regarding your effects: How many feet of cable do you have in total, cause that plays into the coloration of your tone. If you got 30' of cable in total, try to cut it down to under 20', it helps! Add up the footage of all your patch cables in this equation too.

cable length after effects.... ?

I thought that almost all effects had some sort of buffer amp so that you could run all the wire you wanted, AFTER the effect. Except, I guess, "true bypass" effects...?

It's a bad pedal

Pretty simple answer: it's a crappy pedal.

That would explain why it is draining your tone.

not a pro, but...

...it does generally seem like the less cable i run, the clearer the notes are. i never use more than about fifteen feet, even if i'm using fx.

but my old buddy dave used to walk off stage and out to the sidewalk so he could say hi to customers as they walked into the bar.

his cable was at least twenty feet. didn't seem to hurt his sound any.

and no. that had absolutely nothing to do with e-h small stones. or marketing.

so: re e-h. try a-b-ing with another brand.

re marketing: if you want someone to open a book, give it a good title.
