Rollerskates
Hmmm my new hobby.....I put them on everytime I go out....almost. Havent done anything training like in 10+yrs.....Stopped smoking a half year ago. Now I need to do some physical activity. It´s great fun. I used to ski, and winsurf a lot so It´s not hard at all. Now i´ve got gas for new skates, since I just borrowed a cheapo pair.
The great thing about it is that I can push my daughters tricycle with a rod, and or the new baby´s at the same time as having fun on the skates...... Baard |

Yikes...
I'll take a surfboard over skates.
When you fall, it's into water. Water soft, ground hard. Plus at 6'4, for me it's a l-o-n-g way down to that concrete.

well....
Silverface, I cant surf to the grocery store for nappies, can I ???? so that leaves that out pretty much.....I´ll have my homegrown fun down the paved hills around here. I feel slightly jackass, but only without the falling parts.....Im 182 cm, but my weight is the same(+ 20 pounds) since I was 16....I grew up on skiing, and have fallen too many times on icy downhill slopes and by ski jumping to be scared of falling. I always look for a patch of grass tho if things are mooving very fast....Not using any

If you want some excitement try a 'street luge ', very exhilarating hitting speeds 30-50 mph, not so exhilarating wiping out and breaking your arm in 2 places and a rib… this summer I think I’m sticking mainly to sailing and water skiing... maybe 8)

luge
The street luge reminds me of the old Flexible Flyers we used to have...sort of a sled with wheels. We used to do all kinds of incredibly stupid, potentially-terminal things with those.
Hehehe - wonder if they still make 'em?

Hey Baard! Do the wrist & knee guard thing pretty quickly - a bicycle helmet wouldn't be a bad idea either. OK, not the coolest looking but if you fall, at least you're still able to play ... not to mention think, walk, eat, etc ... When you get to the new skate stage, look for something with Active Braking, sort of a lever arrangement on the back cuff of one of the skates. You stop by 'scissoring' your legs. Very easy and none of the instability associated with the toe drag / heel lift / hockey stop techniques. My .02
I used to love to 'blade when I lived in the flatlands, now that I'm in the mountains the opportunities are few and far between. Pretty much I have to go find a parking lot in one of the nearby towns otherwise it's a death ride! Aw well, the skiing is certainly better! |
