We research nearly everything before we buy... Consumer Reports... Amazon... etc...

I can barely afford $50 shirts at Jos A Bank... but the $10 dollar stuff WalMare stuff is only good for one wearing and washing.

So we buy LESS and buy BETTER... I think that is green in some way.
I do the same for some things, however, I wear $2 t-shirts, and $20 jeans. No fashion queen anymore, once the girls stopped paying attention to me! hehe

Coffee. I like to roast my own and have gotten spoiled.
Rum. I can't drink very much very often so I only buy what I like.
Cigars. 2 or 3 a year so I can afford to splurge (see Rum)

And my Vet can charge me what ever she wants. She is worth every penny.

Like this: We bought a 10" chef's knife... waited for a 20% off sale... still cost like $100. It will be there FOREVER. Some day we'll have the set.

Since I don't have enough money for anything, I've always had to find that line where the best bang for the buck is. Oftentimes that has meant learning to do things myself. Want a really fast computer? learned to build my own...and in the process learned that spending a couple extra dollars for Asus motherboards,Western Digital drives and Corsair memory was money well spent. Learned to shop at the restaurant supply place and have knifes that I bought there twenty years ago. Do my own car repairs and if I got to keep the car for more than a year, then I'll spend the extra for Bendix brake parts and TRW suspension parts. Do it right the first time. Wanted a tube guitar amp. Wound up learning to build my own cause I couldn't afford anything really reliable and I could build a 5f2a circuit for a THIRD of what a Fender '57 Champ costs. The one thing I ever really splurged on was my mountain bike. And that was only because I had three bikes stolen from my house and I got a big insurance settlement. And sixteen years later I'm still riding that same Litespeed.

Coffee: Thorntons at home and £2 pound americanos at Brunswick house

Parts and tools: I have tools I spent £30-60 on tools that I have maybe only used for 40mins in total. But they are worth that for when you have those "if only" moments.
And parts - I don't own a single cable without a Neutrik connector (80 connectors in all gets pricey!) and solder them myself.

Instruments and recording gear take up perhaps 70% of my disposable cash.
Example: I own a number of guitars, a double bass and a Rhodes that are each the value of a car, but not a car itself hahaha

I also only buy the pricey hummus

Coffee (only freshly roasted beans from local roasters for my grinder & espresso maker...); wine (thankfully, I come from a wine region and can buy a lot locally); bread; (organic) vegetables.

I just noticed: all food stuffs...
Well, I build my amps & guitars myself, I don't care for electronic gadgets at all, I'm not a car freak, I already got a collction of great photography equipment, and clothes are so unimportant to me that I just buy the cheapest rags I can find, so food really is my ownly luxury...

1. Luggage (only recently)

2. Gefilte Fish

3. Really hot horseradish for 2.

Seriously, my wife and I are caregivers (I'm full-time at it) and we take respite trips once or twice a year, so I'd have to add hotels to that list. To me, the quality of the hotel is worth a premium. I used to travel a great deal when actively practicing law, so I know the good ones from the not-so-good. Things have changed a bit in that industry, but certain things have remained more or less constant over the last 25 years or so.

Guitars and Amps--doesn't have to be overly expensive but I buy exactly what I want.

Food--especially meats, and when we do actually go out to eat it is someplace nice

Travel--My wife and I love to vacation

Computers--I'll never buy a cheap computer again

Watches--I can't afford one right now but one day I will own a Rolex, Breitling, Panerai

Guns--Again doesn't have to be expensive but I want quality
