My wife and I used to live in New Mexico, it's the most beautiful country on the planet.IMHO. Great antique shopping, all kinds of arts and artists, and historical stuff? There's ALOT of that. After all, even if you don't count the original culture which is thousands of years old, the first europeans came about 500 years ago in that area. If you dig north american history it is one of the premiere places in the country to visit.
