On my way home after New Years gig

Saturday morning I was coming home from my New Years gig. I was taking back roads and dirt trails to get home and avoid the Vegas-California traffic on I-15.

Well I came into this valley about ten miles from my house and saw something yellow out in the desert. I stopped the jeep and went to look and it was a herd of wild mustangs.

I happened to have my camera with me so I took a few pictures.
Actually I tracked them for over a mile and spent two hours in with the herd and took over fifty pictures.
I have taken pictures of mustangs around here before, but this herd was of palominos and creamola. Also one of the yearling was an albino.
I have posted the pictures at webshots if anyone want to look at all 51 of them.
Here is the link-- http://community.webshots.com/user/cowboytwang

That is really cool, I wasn't even aware there were herds of wild mustangs like that around!

How did they react to you coming over and taking photos?

When I first saw them I was about a half a mile away and up wind from them. So I spent about 30 minutes walking way around to get down wind, and stayed down low in a wash till I was about 200 feet away.
Then I slowly crawled on the ground to about 40-50 feet away and just laid there for about an hour taking pictures. After they noticed that I was there and didn't seem to threatened then I slowly stood up and took more pictures.

The Stallion was the only one that didn't get to close. He stayed about 50 feet away all the time. He even reared up and arched his neck a couple of time(a show of dominance).

The Cremola colored mare with the black mane and tail is pregnant and looks like she may foal in the next month or two. So I think sometime around mid March I'm going to see if I can find them again to see what the little one looks like.

Beautiful. The only scenery I seem to see is the sighting of a new Walgreens being built. Sigh. :( I gotta move.

Wow,
These pictures that I posted on Webshots got picked as the featured album for today.
They pick out three albums a day for the featured albums, and that's out of over 138 million pictures posted on the web site.
Now the amazing part of my album being picked today is that one of my aunts also has one of her albums picked as a featured album today. I thought that was pretty cool that both of us got picked out of 138 million.

My webshot pictures

Excellent photos

That's something you won't find in my country. The scenery there looks like it's straight out of a John Wayne movie. Excellent pics and well taken too. Thanks for sharing.

Alvin. You are a star!

I've just spent a wonderful hour with my wife (Bev) and two kids - Phoebe who is horse crazy & Thomas - flicking through your pictures and loving every minute of it.

Phoebe who is 8-years old, has bookmarked your page.

Fabulous. You cannot imagine the pleasure your pictures have brought to our home tonight!

Many thanks my friend.

:D Peter
