How about truly collectible guitars

without a big name attached to it. Something vintage, something wellcrafted, etc. Let's face it, if that strat wasn't touched by Hendrix it would cost a trifle less than 5 mil.

Beatles guitars

For me, two guitars would have to be the most valuable: John Lennon's 1958 Rickenbacker Model 325 and George Harrison's 1963 360/12. I don't recall what happened to either guitar.

Boy, would it.

A sleeper would be Clarence White's Tele now owned by Marty Stuart. Probably bring in a huge sum.

how much would a vintage gretsch white penguin go for? as far as a guitar without the "played by so-and-so" tag, it would have to be right up there...

Ho...I'd think Harrison's Gretsch...the one he used on the Ed Sullivan show....would fetch big bucks.....maybe it did....I read a piece in the Stratocaster book about Harrison...it said Harrison was never satisfied with his Gretsch thru a Vox sound....he wanted a Stratocaster but couldn't find one at the time over in England...he finally did get one....he used it on the solo to Nowhere Man....played in unison with John Lennon...and whatever guitar he was using...he later painted the axe with decorations and stuff...sorta arts and crafts I reckon....according to the chapter I was reading....Clapton bought his Fender stuff at the Sho-Bud shop in Nashville back in 1970...said there was a bunch of strats and telecasters for 100.00 a piece...he bought a bunch of 'em....kept three and gave the rest away to players he knew....he took the best parts of the 3 and came up with his player strat *blackie*....wonder if he named the two that was left over?.....pretty interesting stuff....later, spyder

No mention of the 'Hendrix Strat' that Dweezil Zappa now owns? It's the one Hendrix burned at the Miami Pop Festival, then was given to Frank Zappa by Hendrix's roadie. Frank used it on and off in the 70's before storing it under the stairs, where Dweezil found it
in the early 90's. Further research of this guitar has shown that Jimi actually played and set it on fire, not once, but twice. Dweezil's been trying to sell the guitar for years and actually had a bid of $450,000 a while back, but declined.

One we forgot - Maybelle Carter's acoustic

Her archtop Gibby was for sale last year...I saw it on a thread for around $185,000. Not cheap. I think holds a very significant place in history.
