Guitar World #75 - SRV

I was at the grocery store the other day. I happened to see SRV on the cover of a magazine. It turns out, that the whole Special Edition is dedicated to SRV. Upon futher checking, this is a Guitar World special series called Guitar Legends.

REALLY nice pictures, transcripts, interviews and stories.

There were three on the rack and I bought one. I went back two days later and they were all gone. However, their website still has them for sale as an archive edition.

There is a line in one of the interviews with SRV that I really like:

The interviewer says 'You grew up in Dallas but you moved to Austin'. SRV says 'You can't play blues in Dallas unless you are from out of town. All the musicians we know are playing disco, or something like that.'

Man, can I relate to that back in 1976~1980!!!

I picked up that same issue!

It caught the corner of my eye, and I was in the check out line with it right then.

Hearing Tommy and Chris describe the night of the Alpine Village helicopter crash was just heart breaking.

But it was great to read how they had cleaned up their acts, and they were beginning to flourish, frsh and sober.

And transcripts too! Wish I knew how to read music!

I have the Austin City Limits DVD where they show bits of both shows. There are also several interviews from Double Trouble. When Chris tells the story on the video, you can clearly see the pain in his face. Now THAT is heart breaking.

Have you guys read the book "Caught in the Crossfire" ?

It came out just a couple of years after the accident. I liked that book a lot. It's basically a biography. Starts at his birth and tells his whole story.

I highly recommend it. You will smile, laugh, then cry.

That is a fantastic book. I bought it the week it was released, a great read. I just called GC and had my guy put one of those SRV issues behind the counter for me, I will pick it up after work.
