Favorite potato chips?

Mine are Snyders of Berlin Bar-B-Q :D (available in the northeast). Besides the great flavor, like guitars, no two bags are exactly alike. Each batch has a slightly different flavor. As far as regular flavor chips, I used to like those New York Deli chips. Greasy and crunchy...yum. But they're hard to find (if they're even still available) so I haven't had any lately.

An excellent question that has never been asked here before!

I absolutely LOVE green onion potato chips! They first came out with them when I was a kid. Then they disappeared, and the next thing ya know, we have sour cream and onion, which are not the same at all. I never saw green onion chips again for YEEEEEARS until I was on the road with a band down south somewhere. I found all kinds of green onion chips! They just don't sell them in Michigan for some strange reason. So, whenever I go down south, I buy about 50 bags and bring them home with me. Brand doesn't matter.

sadly,.....

....I've been known to polish off a whole bag of Funyuns! But I'm picky: they gotta be the thin ones that are real crunchy! The big puuffy ones just dont cut it!

Now there is a sports bar at a casino near where I work, and I only go there, if the company is doing a lunch with auditors, or customers there. but they have the best homemade potato chips! Thick, a little greasy, and really crunchy! plus they serve em with a cajun cheese sauce, that creeps up on ya: The first few taste real good and falvorful, then you notice your eybrows are a sweatin. BAM! Heat baby, heat! Wooooiiee, but they good!

Tough question

It's either Maui Chips made and purchased in Hawaii... or Salt & Vinegar Chips from Bob's Texas Style chips.

Paul Green
PS. I grew up (really) with Charles Chips in the Yellow and Brown gallon tins delivered straight from the delivery truck.

re Charles Chips

I remember those, you kept a huge can and they came around every week with a truck and you got it refilled.
I was just a kid but as I recall they tasted pretty good.

Personally I'm not much of a potato chip eater these days , but tortilla chips and salsa, that's another story!

Potato Chips.....

If you are in the mid-atlantic/east coast region:

Martins BBQ - can't be beat, period.

Gibbles regular (all natural - potatoes, salt and lard!)

Kitch'n Cook'd - made in Staunton VA, just a few miles from where I grew up!

On the gulf coast:

Zapp's - almost all the flavors are great, I especially like the "Cajun Crawtator" crawfish flavored ones

I don't think I've met one I didn't like...

Any of Route 11's offerings are great (they're local...). BBQ Grippos (from the Kentucky/Ohio area) are the best of their ilk I've ever had.

They're no longer made, but Eagle Brand Kettle Potato Chips were great...a great crunch, the perfect amount of salt, and a great kettle-cooked flavor (and color!). (Eagle was the "snack food" subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch a few years ago.)

Now, a few of our great Canadian representatives to the TDPRI know that I am extremely fond of Lay's Ketchup-flavored Potato Chips. Beside the fact that they're delicious, you can't get 'em here in the States, and that's a small part of the reason I'm so enamored with them--I desire that which I cannot have! :P When I was last in Toronto, about a year-and-a-half ago, I probably looked like an idiot traipsing around in Pearson International Airport with two supermarket sacks full of bags of Ketchup-flavored Lay's.

Here in the Southeastern U.S., there's a chip manufacturer, Golden Flake, which had a trial potato chip flavor out in select markets two summers ago. The trial flavor? CHEESEBURGER. Yes, folks, super-delicious cheeseburger-flavored potato chips. The darn things actually tasted like a cheeseburger (with fries, of course)! While I thought they were great, I guess everyone else in the test markets didn't agree: I haven't seen these chips since.

Great Bad Dog Cafe thread.

I agree with the Tim's Cascade chips. It seems each area of the country has their own "micro-chipery", but I'd put Tim's up against the best. I love the regular chips and with an ice cold brew, the Jalepeno chips can't be beat. Sadly, Tim died a few years ago, but his chip legacy lives on!

Killer combo.

Pretty funny juxtaposition of this with the exercise threads. ;-) This is kind of the "anti-diet" discussion.

But here's something I bet you haven't tried that's just incredibly good:

Terra brand sweet potato chips:

with LiteHouse Jalapeno Ranch dressing as a dip:

I discovered this combination a couple of years ago, and have since taken it to several parties, where I've watched guests swarm over it in a feeding frenzy. Something about the combination of sweet + crunchy + creamy + spicy that's simply amazing. Don't say I didn't warn you... ;-) CS

Jay's!

When I moved to the west coast from the Chicago suburbs, I had to leave my favorite potato chip behind, too - Jay's. It's a "bring you back to your childhood" food for me.
