I believe this is true and sums up the process of quitting quite well.

I would agree with this and I have experience in these matters as I have quit many times!

Actually the last time took really good and I still agree with this...

For me I ENJOY smoking. I just HATE how it made me feel. (Oh, and the thought of cancer thing too) Now I can "smoke" just like I did before but still breath! Yeah, I'm still shelling out my $ to some fat cat. But, now I can play with my 4 kids w/o being winded. I have NO desire to go back to "analogs."

To those looking at buying one of these:

I spent the past year looking at various makes. I can't recomend the Volcano Magma enough. They really nailed it. Friends of mine have tried the mall kiosk brands. They are money pits, you need to buy a new atomizer for every cart etc. They leak, turn on at random, just junk. If you are going to get one of these, poney up the few extra bucks for the Magma and you'll never go back.

There have been issues with some electronic cigarettes producing more nicotine then real cigarrettes. So it's good to remember that they are doing more harm to parts of your body and are harder to kick then people think. I knew someone who owned a bar when they banned smoking here in the UK, he took it up so he could smoke at work and he said it was worse after a while then trying to give up the real thing.

It's been 5 weeks since I had a cigarette...

I'm doing the Chantix...

This is the 3rd time I've quit in my life and each time it's gotten harder...

ATM, I'm averaging about 4 hrs sleep at a time before I have to get up and do/eat something... (lots of guitar playing)

Right now, deep inside, I feel like I could kick a puppy...

Ordered a "Titan" 501 starter kit from http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/ Monday, it should be in the mail this morning since they're based in Bradington - about 30 mile S of here. After ordering it, I realized I should have gotten the "Tornado" (eGo) but what the heck, I've already saved that money from not buying cigarettes to afford the mistake.

If half of what I've seen on YouTube is to be believed, I'll never smoke a cigarette again. I might even start jogging again.

That was the suspicion I had that made me think I was lucky for not having gotten into those as a means of getting off cigarettes!

Smoking is addiction to nicotine. The eCig's cartridges (carts) can be charged with various strength "juice" - including 0 mg nicotine.

Even with juice that contains nicotine, you don't inhale any tar or any of the other 4000 chemical ingredients in the tobacco of cigarettes, many of which are carcinogens.

The eCig's contain about 20 ingredients. Most are natural flavorings but the two main ingredients are nicotine and propylene glycol. Nicotine is a poison BUT, nicotine does cause disease in and of it's self.

For the estimated 48 million smokers in the US - most of which will never get over their nicotine addiction, there now is a new alternative to certain disease and death due to smoking and that is the eCig.

Are they safe?

Compared to cigarettes, I would say yes.

Can they be abused?

Well, yeah. You can also abuse food or alcohol or exercising. All of which will cause health concerns for those that don't use common sence.

So, your friend quit smoking. So, no cancer etc. Huh...... I guess I don't understand how that is "worse."

He can't stop e-cigs? Big deal. He would have spent the money on real cigs and died from them. Now he gets to live and still smoke.

Look, I know it's not vit "C" or anything. But it kept him from an early grave yes?

I was a PAD (pack a day) smoker here, for 30 years.
I just bought my e-cig last week after researching for the past month which one to get.
And have been smoke free for the first time in that time since last Saturday at 9:30 pm.
My clothes, breath, apartment don't smell like an ashtray anymore.

I decided to go with the eGo. This is the ONLY thing that has worked so far.
I am ecstatic. Patches? Gum? Those things either made me sick or did not work at all.

I now feel like I have extended my life, by vaping nicotine rather than smoking carcinogens. There is also a forum for e-cigarettes, that has a great community; much like the TDPRI.

Yes, there is an initial startup cost. But if it helps me avoid other medical issues. Then I'd say it's worth it. If you smoke, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and at least look into e-cigs.

Besides the cigarettes I am getting a little addicted to leaving messages on these here threads. Some interesting view points. I use to smoke, heavily. 4 packs a day sometimes. Anyhow i would say the electronic cigarette thing is just that a thing. I would say it will help you overcome some of the physiologic problems associated with smoking, unless they have nicotine in them. I tried many fads during my smoking cessation. When I quit electronic cigarettes were available, but no one used them that I know of. I tried those filters that adjusted the strength of the cigarette from a normal to lower strength, and that did help, but i went right back to it. So, I tried everything, from throwing cigarettes in the toilet to stomping on them. Kept at it for a long time, but I finally was able to quit. Took me about 5 years to overcome the addiction. I am glad I did for if I didn't I would be dead now. I feel a lot better, but I still have some breathing problems. Nothing major, but enough to know that smoking did some damage. So whatever it takes for you to quit "Do it." I smoked for 20 years and finally quit, and you can do it to, just stick with it and you'll do it. If the electronic thing works, then go for it. Or at least it will help you get started on your way to being free from cigarettes.

Thanks for posting this thread . . . I hadn't heard of these things til yesterday.

Been looking into them. Here in Aus. they aren't allowed to sell the nicotine cartriges (!!!) but we are allowed to buy them over the net.
I'm thinkin I'll give the 0mg cartriges a try and see if I can get by with just the "feel" of smokin'. I reckon that's the bit I'll miss the most - having something to do with my hands !

Can you buy blank carts in Aus? If so, you can buy a few of those and fill them w/ whatever juice you want (including 0 nic) That's what I'm doing from now on. Volcano's site has 'em.

I bought some e-cig thing one time, and it was HORRIBLE. It tasted like burning plastic or something, and it took days to get the taste out of my mouth. I couldn't do it. Spent $90 on the whole mess. Now I don't have the money to spend like that, so....I buy them one pack at a time, hoping I'll quit tomorrow. It's pitiful.

dunno.. there was a post from a vendor there this morning.. here is a link to the product he was advertising. XPower650, That place is based in China.. there's no problem with the company as far as I know, other than selling cheap for the same price as the proper versions.

Those sound delightful. I've been severely addicted to Nicorette gum for 15 yrs, it goes on the weekly grocery list. My teeth are suffering for it. I enjoy the odd Captain Black Cherry or Pom Pom, if your smoking somewhere where there's some drinking going on, I'll be bummin' your smokes all day long.
