Does anyone here insure their Teles?

I mean, besides pro players and studio owners (and I guess guys who own stores). I started looking into it when we got our house but since every piece of my equipment could be replaced for less than a grand, I just have the basic homeowners policy. I just wondered if anyone here specifically insures their gear.

yes, I do. Through Heritage, I deal with Ellis Hershman.

In your case, your homeowners policy should cover it.

I just have an added rider on my home insurance so if not used on a constant basis outside the home all are covered. Make sure your contents value exceeds or equals
all the contents of your home, personable property, including all your music items.

I chose Music Pro insurance online.
Premium is about $10/$1000 so for $16K gear I pay $160/year.
$100 deductible (my homeowners is $1,000)
Includes accidental damage (most homeowners will not cover if you break it)
Automatic coverage for borrowed or rented equipment (most homeowners will cover only items you own)

Because we do gig I believe there is a high chance of things being stolen or damaged. If I was mainly playing at home or going to a buddies house now and then I might not spend the extra money.

+1 for MusicPro insurance. My guitar rig came up to about$6,000 and got it insured for $100 a year. $100 deductible no matter how much of it gets stolen or damaged and covered from any accidental damage. If you forget to load your guitar and leave it sitting on the ground behind the truck and back over it, it's covered. If you forget to lock the back of your trailer and your gear falls out and gets run over by an 18 wheeler, it's covered. Anything done on purpose is not covered of course.

I just use my gear at home now, so I've two guitars listed as specified items on my home policy.

I looked into when I was in school, because I couldn't afford to replace it, if it was stolen. However, I couldn't find any agreeable policies, so I gave up. Sounds like I need to check out the above companies. They sound very reasonable.

I have all of my gear listed as an extra to my house insurance.

My original policy was limited to $250 in musical equipment, but my replacement value of gear is closer to $18,000. Now I pay about $300 a year, and it's also insured anywhere outside of the house provided it is under lock and key in those locations.

Good post. I have been asking my Farmer's agent several times over the years about this and have not received any info. I'll give Heritage a call. I gig and I think that because I am making money with my gear it's not covered by my HO policy. My stuff is not worth a fortune but if I lost it I would be devastated.

I use Clarion.
Saves worrying about loss.
At least you know you will recover the replacement cost.

+1. My homeowners has a limit & though it's pretty high & I've got 'full replacement' value, I do a rider. Cheap. Do the same for my boat, ATV.
