Pawn Shops Procedures

Well, never say "I never...."

I need a bit of money quick! So, I'm gonna try a Pawn Shop.
First off, I know they don't give you anything for the items. BUT, what I really want to know is how safe are my babies? I mean can they sell them right out from under me? Are they considered theirs cause they loaned me money?
Do I have to worry about them swapping parts out or anything like that?

DON'T WORRY!

I have two babies in a pawn shop right now. I do it all the time. They won't sell them out from under you. The one I go to gives for months to pay, and if you pay off the intrest after four months they give you another four months. They want to make the money off of the intrest. They also give a certain amount of grace period after the four months, and will contact you before they intend to sell.

The one down side is that if the guitar is stolen or destroyed in a fire, flood, or other act of nature they will not take responsability for it.

Ask them about these things, and READ THE DISCAIMER on the contract before you sign it.

I would loosen the strings a little if you plan on keeping it there for a while.

Well, I know at the pawn shop that I use the place is kept like FORT KNOX. They have barred gates and locks and vaults.

Plus if someone is gonna rob a pawn shop I don't think that they are gonna waste time sifting through a hundred guitar cases to find "the really nice one". They are gonna go straight for the jewlery and cash. You have more of a chance of getting a guitar robbed from your own house than you do at a pawn shop.

I worry more about flood than robbery. I am pretty sure that they keep the guitars in the basment at my pawn shop.

Talk to them and ask about all of these things. I know I feel safe about my guitars being there. More than I do when they are at home at least. I always worry about getting robbed while I am at work because I work nights, and everyone in town knows I have guitars.

My amp goes to eleven.

Pawn Shops

Pawn Shops are regulated by individual states rather than Federal law, be careful to read your contract thoroughly.
