i sure do love the ART DECO design of the late 20s - 40s

simple funtional buildings, furniture, and machines that were built to be beautiful for beauty's sake. it fell outta favor after WWII and when people started seeing it as gaudy and false luxury.

and old zenith radio

I have a Wassily chair and it's the centerpiece pretty much of my living room, the leather has aged beautifully. People are really surprised at how comfortable it is. I know is from a different "school", but same time period .

Very creative period of time compared to present day where fast and more and cheap are the central design themes.

Bike

My bike is styled in the art deco manner.
It looks like it's moving while it's not.

Deco is beautiful. The Chrysler Building, to me, is one of the most beautiful designs on the planet.

Ever been inside?

Probably not anymore, since 9/11, unless you work there. back in 2000, I walked in and checked out the lobby. Absolutely stunning!

.....and then they booted me out!

Beat me to it! Used to live in Syracuse and drive past this one all the time. Always wanted to go in but never got the chance.

Another great one is the lobby space of the GE Building (30 Rock) in Rockefeller Center:

The rest of the public space in that complex are pretty amazing as well. Dimly lit, with gilt surfaces and marble and steel. Just stunning.

If you're into art deco, you should google Victor Horta...

The most awesome period of design in our history !!!
Here is a T-Shirt I did to commemorate 'progress' and
the wrecking of an old historical theatre in my hometown.
Scan is b-a-a-a-ad, though...
