--Updated-- Help me choose another guitar! (Guitar chosen.)
Well - I'm itchin' for "something". Don't really have much to spend, and since it will probably hit the old credit card for 2-3 months, it's no big deal. Just looking for something fun to play - AND it has to have some SOUL. (I know - tough find!)
I was browsing through the latest MF catalog (geesh the new one is big - lacking on some content though). Here's a small list of possibilities: Burns Flyte - list $839 - on sale for $349. Hmm. Tappable buckers, a uniqueshape that is playable sitting down, interesting. Made in USA (?) - I think. Jackson Warrior WRXT - list $570, on sale $399. I used to want one of these back in 1990 - when they were only US made and I was in to that shape. Certainly grabs that 90s pointy guitar look. pass Ibanez Artcore AFS75T - list $499 on sale $379. large hollowbody with 2 buckers and a bigsby - looks cool - but I have my reservations. Plus, I would need to get the hardcase for it (since it's a hollowbody) and that's another $80. Gretch Pro Jet - list $550 one sale $419. goldtop - but what happened to the bigsby? I'll have to check last month's MF to see. Still - it has that vintage vibe - and maybe some soul? Epiphone LP Special II - list $249 on sale $149. Hey, it's cheap. Also a 1 humbucker model available for $89. No desire to own one though. pass Epiphone Dot Archtop - list $665 on sale $399. Semi hollow body, 2 buckers - has that ES-335 vibe for lots less cash. I think these were available recently in a special finish/paint? Actually, aside from the headstock - this guitar shows potential. (free case offer too!) Affinity Tele Special (blonde) - list $282 on sale $169. All that '52 reissue vibe for 1/8 the price. But, the color is way off, I'd have to replace the bridge with a vintage one, tint the neck, etc etc. Nice price - but I'd probably spend that much modding it. Oscar Schmitt OE30 - list $459 on sale $149. ES335 look - but I can't tell from the picture - is that a BOLT ON neck?! I've never been impressed with the OS brand stuff. They also have a large hollowbody for $229 - but I think I'll pass on both. I might swing by Atomic Music this weekend to look for anything that speaks to me. Got a bunch of guitars I don't play already - so whatever I get has to gel with me enough to sit next to my #1.

Check out the Peavey's
The HP Signature for $299.00 or the JF-1 ( semi hollow ) for $299.00 look like nice geetars. They are on page 17 of that big ol MF catalog. Something a bit different anyway. My recent score on a Peavey Firenza with 2 P-90's was a very pleasent surprise. I had it for sale a while back. No takers...and now I'm glad no one was interested. It's a killer! Sweet, tough P-90 tones for cheap.

Those Oscar Schmidt's are bolt on necks. A buddy of mine bought one and put a strat neck on it. It looks kinda cool.

I saw that big hollowbody Oscar Schmidt, that caught my eye. I'm a sucker for cheap archtops. I have two Agiles, an Arbor, and a Dearmond (all archtops). But I do have a Gretsch, also. I just love archtops (and teles, of course)>

I like the looks of the Pro Jet or the Dot Archtop best from what you listed. I like the looks of some of the Burns, but not that one - and the fact that it says Burns USA is a little misleading - Burns Korea, or maybe Burns by Samick, made in Korea would be more accurate. Looking at the guitars on your website, you seem to have most of the angles covered already. Maybe you should get a nice acoustic...

Artcore
Gets my vote, I have the AF75 non trem.Nice guitar easy to play, pickups could be slightly hotter but no big deal for me. Looks good, sounds good, feels good.
Also its a rising star price wise, they have jumped about $50 in price in the last year for all models. Peter |

i got a gretsch pro-jet, i love the thing, i got it without the bigsby, the bigsby costs at least $100 more, and i felt that the thing sounded kinda crappy and put you outta tune like it was its job, anyway, its a well built guitar, the pickups are..i dont know, kinda cheap, but have a good vibe to them, the guitar is a good contrast to my strat and tele...-john

I think I solved the problem (though it really only complicated things for a short while). Check out:
www.chrisguitars.com He's got a ton of nice guitars at great prices. While you're there, check out the first paragraph above all the guitar description - it seems I'll have an early birthday present this year! :D Since the '52 RI Tele is on hold (go figure), I'm leaning towards a Deluxe USA Strat. Ah... life is good. -Steve E.

Hey, congrats for winning the contest! I totally forgot to enter untill a few minutes after it was too late. I bought a red Nashville from Chris awhile back. He's a good guy.
If I had won, I would have taken the cool looking Gibson L6s he's got there. If you're looking for something different, that's it.

The "problem" is that a bunch of the cool stuff in on hold. :? But I *really* won't complain! Saw the silverburst LS-6 - didn't really grab me. Considered the '84 black flying V (with pickguard) - but... I think a Strat is what I would get the most use out of.
