the ToneQuest Report - GOOD READING!
Man, those guys have got a great publication. It is strictly about getting the BEST tones out of the equipment you have. The coolest thing, is that they have tons of interviews with REAL TONEMASTERS. These guys extract every little detail from "what was your first amp" to "what does Tom Anderson do special for your guitars" (in exclusive interviews - and I mean exclusive).
I stumbled onto their "Tone Records" section on their website today. Man, I gotta get so of that stuff! Check out their backissues and see all the cool interviews and equipment reviews they have done. I have no association with ToneQuest other than I subscribe to their premium priced publication - but it is worth every penny!

My name was mentioned in the June '03 issue. It's my one and only claim to fame.

Objective
I can easily see that ANY media that is authored (including this forum), will always have some level of bias.
But considering all of their recommendations for artists and equipment have been home runs in my book, I would say that they have a VERY good ear for tone. Certainly, they have their consultants and charter members that have a finacial stake in good reviews. But that is hardly any different than Motor Trend Mag or Fortune 500. Only, this is definately closer to my personal interests. Granted, that some of the artists are not my flavor of listening, but they sure are recognized for their "tone", style and eclectic approach to music. Thus the objective of the publication.
