Ever trade a guitar for a non-musical item?

Just curious if anyone has made any interesting trades of a guitar for a non-musical item besides cash.

Yes, long story attached which I'll not bother with, but a great 'life lesson' came free with it...

The previous time was to fund a new pc to finish my degree.

So once justifiable and once for a different 'education'.

Oh Yeah.....

Made a deal last summer with a contractor. He built a beautiful external deck/staircase for my barn in exchange for an acoustic guitar (Guild), guitar lessons (for him and/or his family designees) and cash.

We're both very satisfied with that arrangement.

I gave away an Epiphone Les Paul Special Model II that I received free to a friend who needed a guitar. Does that count?

I traded a tele for an Xbox 360 a few years ago.

A friend needed a guitar and didn't have money to pay for one, had a bit of a gaming addiction that he wanted to get a handle on and I had a spare Mexican telecaster.

Well, I bought my uncle's Gretsch Synchromatic from him, then swapped it back for his '65 Ford truck, then missed the guitar too much and bought it from him again. Still have the guitar, truck's long gone...

Well, I've done the reverse in a manner of speaking. I got rid of a Winchester Model 70 Classic Super Grade and got a '57 LP RI a few years back.

I bought a 57 P bass for $800 at Norms rare guitars in 1978.

MY friend bought an RD400 Yamaha for $800 in 78. He rode his bike with me for a few months I also had a 78 RD400.

He is a bass player and was playing for Haggard at the time so he ended up with my Bass and I ended up with his RD400. Even trade we shook hands.

He still has the bass.

I once traded a nearly new Harmony flattop guitar, a leather jacket, and $200 cash for a 1961 Renault Dauphine that I wanted to drive home to Minnesota from New Mexico because I was sick of hitch-hiking and being miserable...this was in 1969.

One of the dumbest decisions of my life. I built a strat using a BEAUTIFUL hand selected ash body and maple neck from USACG. All US electronics. I got talked into vintage noiseless pickups, didn't know any better. The guitar sounded a little dull to me. I wasn't playing at the time, so I traded it off for a 1964 winchester model 94 (yeah, one year too new to be worth much of anything). Realizing my mistake later, I traded the rifle for a MIM standard strat. Now, in my defense, that strat was really something special, and got me back into playing in a big way. I nearly played the frets of of it, sold it for a song, and bought a JV signature strat. Went through a few tele's, and then got rid of them all to get my '62 (which is still in layaway waiting for tax refund money to get in the bank account). I've learned my lesson, and this one is staying with me for life.

The parts-caster along with my acoustics:

I haven't, but a good friend traded a dbl-floor-tom set of Blue Vista-lites (acrylic drums) for a new front end for his camaro sometime in the mid eighties...wishes he could have THAT back, though I'm kinda glad he doesn't have those things, to be honest!

Never a guitar for a non-musical item, however, I traded a Hammond C-3 and Leslie for a 1973 Nova Hatchback with new engine/transmission. What a car! It got tore up in a wreck though, some woman lost control in the rain, and tore the whole driver's side off the thing.

I sold my drumset one time, cash and partial trade...trade was a Remington .308 semi-auto rifle, which I absolutely hated, and traded for a semi-auto 12 gauge and $150 cash (to me). Wish I had the drums now...great drum set..Premier, and about 12 cymbals...mostly Zildjians...and mostly Pearl double-braced stands, and complete hard-fiber cases for everything! Still have the shotgun.

I traded the roto-toms from that drumset for a .380 Backup which I also still have.

I sold a CB drumset one time to get cash to buy a motorcycle. Got a Yamaha 850 Special...what a great bike that was too. Drumset wasn't bad either, it really sounded good for the price.

That's all I can remember right now, sure there's more...LOL!

I traded a............

gold top Les Paul Deluxe which was a factory 2nd (it had the number 2 stamped on the back of the headstock) for a Smith & Wesson snub nose style 38 caliber revolver with a nice shoulder holster. I only paid $499 for the guitar with a hardshell case around 1979 or so. I'd had some threats on my life due to a hook up with a chick at the club I was working who happened to be married but never told me. Anyway, after I got the gun I started wearing sport coats to my gigs everynight and always had the pistola with me but nothing ever happed.

Also aroung 1973 I had a Blanton single neck pedal steel which was originally a ten string but was converted to an eleven string. I traded it straight across for a 1958 Volkswagen Beetle which I wish I still had but then again, I wish I still had the steel..........JH in Va.

About 30 years ago, I traded an old Fender Pro Reverb amp ago for a big toolbox. Then traded the toolbox for a black powder rifle. Then traded the rifle for the amp. Then gave the amp to my brother. A few years ago when he got divorced his (ex) wife stole it and sold it to a hock shop...we have not seen it since....
