I'm with you on this one, but it's not going to change. The half time show has evolved to become an institution, and it gets talked about and written about--and watched--almost as much as the game. The NFL, the networks, and the sponsors have to be happy about that. It creates interest with people who don't even care about football. And it adds to the idea that the Super Bowl is a big event, not just a game--though to me "just a game" is more than enough.
Think about it. People typically use commercial breaks to visit the bathroom. During the Super Bowl, the commercials are can't-miss and you pee during the game.

First Super Bowl (but it wasn't called a Super Bowl) was broadcast in color on TWO, count 'em TWO, networks. NBC and CBS.

I'm pretty sure the half-time was 15 minutes.

Probably what it should be today.

Outcome of yesterday's game may have been different without a 30 minute cooling down time between halves.

Then again, maybe not.

If you know what I mean.

Well, yes and no.

The game was originally called the World Championship but Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt also did name it the Super Bowl before the first one was played after his kids' Super Ball toy (I had one of those) and the college Bowl games.

If you haven't seen it yet, everyone should try and catch the multi-part history of the AFL that was on TV.
