I hope they rip the place apart. Conan is a big rock and roll fan - and guitar collector.
I wanna see a blaze of glory. Go Conan, go Neil!

Im hopin Neil does Rockin in the free world just like he did on that late 80's SNL performance saw him do that with CSN in 2007 he flopped around just as hard so hopefully he will let it al go and rip off the strings at the end then Conan and Andy will tear up the set.

And, it's still absolutely smoking two decades later. I think Charley Drayton on bass and Steve Jordan on drums? Cheers, Geoff

He performed "Long may you run".
We've been through some things together With trunks of memories still to come We found things to do in stormy weather Long may you run Long may you run Long may you run Although these changes have come With your chrome heart shining in the sun Long may you run Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962 When I last say you alive But we missed that shift on the long decline Long may you run Long may you run Long may you run Although these changes have come With your chrome heart shining in the sun Long may you run Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now With those waves singin' "Caroline No" Rollin' down that empty ocean road Gettin' to the surf on time Long may you run Long may you run Although these changes have come With your chrome heart shining in the sun Long may you run Long may you run Long may you run Although these changes have come With your chrome heart shining in the sun Long may you run Good Stuff!

Thanks for the heads up! I always enjoy watching Neil Young perform live.
I did not even know this was Conan's last show. I think he is funnier than Leno or Letterman. I got the VCR all ready to roll for this one. |

And, for the "tear it up" folks, Conan strapped on an LP and played Freebird with Ben Harper, Will Ferrell as Ronnie Van Zandt, Beck, and the Reverend Billy Gibbons.

Caught it last night and as much as I'm not really a fan on Mr. Young...I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. A great and fitting song for the occasion. Bravo!

I'm not a Conan fan but did wake up and catch Neil and the finale jam. Conan looked like he was having a great time living his rock n roll fantasy. |

Thanks for posting those great video's Telefarmer and Jack T. Conqueror. "Rocking in the Free World" brought me out of my chair and "Long may you Run" brought a tear to my eye. Question: has there ever been a musician with more integrity than Neil Young? He really stands out in a business devoid of such concepts as honor, honesty and determination. The man has followed his muse for five decades, stubbornly refusing to bow to popular demand. Inspirational is what I call it...

Boy, what an artist ... from folk to full-out rock, and those lyrics! He's a neighbourhood chap .. and I really admire his talent ... all these years.
Thanks to all for posting a few links.

I thought Neil did a very fitting tribute and great job overall!!I'm also on board with what Thin69 posted about Neil being an influence and part of who he is, couldn't have said it better myself. The final jam was very cool too. I have a couple questions I'm hoping someone can give me some insight on.
#1) After Neil performed ,Connan thanked him and Neil returned the thanks saying" Thank you for all you've done for my music". I'm not sure if I'm missing something from the past not being a late nite TV person. #2) I was surprised to see Connan play and was wondering at first if it was simply just part of the gag. Has he shown guitar playing abilities before? Thanks, Gene

Neil's friend and producer, L.A. Johnson, had just died.
Neil appeared to be grieving pretty bad, is what I saw. He seemed like a different performer from what he was in May at the Jazz Fest. Larry L.A. Johnson, rest in peace. We're thinking about you, and all the people you've touched and anybody that meant that much to Neil, has to mean a lot to me. |

IMO, Neil was the perfect guest:
He did his thing & was polite & respectful. It was Conan's show. So if he wanted the set tore up he should have been & was given the opportunity to do it himself. Naturally, I've been having trouble staying awake because of some meds I'm taking. So I passed out before he came on. So thanks for the link telefarmer.

Neil said "Thank you for all you've done for NEW music". Conan booked a lot of new bands on his shows through out the years. |
