Mojo needed please. No job...max stress...
Oh man. Never lost a job before in 25 years of working. The job loss is a long story but I essentially had to resign.
I am so worried. No paycheck. I got a little monetary package when I left my job, but it won't go far. I have a wife and two young daughters right here before the holidays. We spent all our savings moving to this area and I have nothing to fall back on. Never expected ths sort of thing to happen. The streak of bad/tragic luck we've had since moving to NY state last Summer would fill the page. We're putting all our stuff in storage and heading back to the South/Midwest. I had job interview in Texas last week but th way I lost this job is probably going to affect the next position I get. My wife has a heart condition and I don't want her to work. I have applications in all over Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and a few other places but I won't hear anything until next year. I imagine something will come through, but I may have to start again at the bottom. I don't mean to whine. I know so many people have been hit hard this year. I just can't believe all this misfortune. I'm hoping for a sunny resolution to all of this, but I dunno. It looks pretty bleak. At least we don't own a home, though we have to leave this one (too expensive and we want to get out of here anyway.) Best of luck to all the people suffering this Winter. We deserve some bright skies. Last edited by TDPRI; December 14th, 2009 at 04:10 PM.. |

Oh man, I am so sorry to hear about that. I complain about my job, but I keep telling myself how lucky I am to have it in these impossible times. Best of luck, and try to keep a positive attitude as much as you can.

Absolutely all the mojo I have, I'm sending your way!
Hang in there and remember that bad times are usually followed (eventually) by good times. You'll be back up again presently! Tim |

I'll go the other way here.
Don't rely on mojo, best wishes, luck, or any of that stuff. People mean well -and so do I- but at the end of the day it's up to you. Have some faith in yourself; knuckle down in the hard times; plan for your future; and enjoy the little things in life that please you!! If you really want to turn things around, you will!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Did you pay into 401k? I don't normally adivse this unless things really get rough, but you might be able to withdraw some of your 401k to help you through the period until you get a new job. Some people are also vested in companies after 5 years, and don't realize they have money there either. Your financial advisor will look at you with horror, but sometimes times are rough and you do what you gotta do to get by until you can get back on track. You can always put a few thousand back in down the road. Yes there's taxes, yes you lose interest, it's not the end of the world though.
Losing a job sucks, but after reading your story, it sounds like NY wasn't your cup of tea anyhow. I am not overly religious, but I am spiritual person and believe in karma and things/fate happening for a reason sometimes. I know it's cliche' but some doors close and new ones open. All this might be the beginning of something great that is just over your horizon. Just be strong for your family and do the best you can. They love and support you through the good and the bad regardless of what you might think, be careful how much of this you burden on yourself emotionally. I work in the corporate field, I can't even tell you how many people I have seen come and go, only to turn around and say losing thier job was the best thing that ever happened to them as they embark on new career paths. Good things will come your way. Take an hour or two, sit with your guitar, relax, open your mind to the possibilities and ideas that you know are out there. Don't sweat what your now ex employer can say about you if you use them as a reference, they are restricted in what information they can give. Mojo sent! |

None of those things should negatively interfere with your job search unless you somehow suggest that there was a problem... So don't do that. Get your A$$ to Texas. You've got family and friends here, and your wife's medical condition is reason enough to justify the move. |

All the best. A new year will start again and I'm hoping that this year will turn it around for you. I think the move back in it self will bring the positive change you need ... Best of Luck Bro !!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I have a feeling everything will work out (eventually.) I'm working hard job-seeking and sending out resumes and applications on a daily basis. I'll find out about the Texas job in two days. Got my fingers crossed! |

Focus on the positive! Look at what you've done well and keep putting it out there as you keep looking for work. You didn't get this far in life by being a stick in the mud. Granted, you're in a bit of tough spot, but get out and do something about it! You can... and you will be successful!
Happy Twanging!

Having no job and living in NY is probably the worst! I hope your fortunes get reversed quickly and the new year finds you on the right track!!

I've been out of work a few times (though not thankfully in the last 8 years) and it always hits hard. It sounds like you are tackling this sensibly and getting yourself organized.
Good luck finding a new job in Texas, and best wishes to your family over the holidays. |

Make sure to go on www.realtor.com and be sure to check out New Orleans,La. - now's really the time for NOLA - because sooner of later (probably later sadly) prices will skyrocket again and You'll be SOL. I lived very well in New Orleans on "workman's wages". And YES - I wanna go back something awful too. Everyday I go onto www.weather.com and check out how warm it's gonna be there in The Big Easy that day...

Job loss and medical conditions turn everything upside-down. I can't offer you a job, but I send you my best wishes for the future.

Mojo sent Mudd!
By the way, would it be too much to ask what kind of work you are looking for? Perhaps some folks here at TDPRI can aid in your search.

Hey Buddy.
Lost my job last september, after 26 years. They fired 20% of people in research where i work. But then they are hiring back, young ones and save 40% on the salary, Got a decent package ( well they will stretch it 'till i reach 55 then get my pension). Its a sweet deal compared to most, but still the money i get is more in the survival range than the comfort range. Gonna have to look for a job in January. Good luck to you, I know how you feel. Hang in there |

Years ago went thru this, compounded by multiple other problems w. family illness, divorce, name it. Dirt poor, multiple responsibilities I had to honor, no fun. Frankly, it was a real drag. I was 24--like I said, ages ago--and without work for the first time since age 12. Took quite some time but things started to pick up slowly, eventually got a lot better and I'm OK now. I do tend to take a dark view still sometimes but eventually shake it off with "things will turn out OK in the end". They do.
That experience--which maybe some have never had?--showed me how tough it is to try hard, fail, and pick up the pieces. Hang in there, look for life's bright spots & best wishes to you. |
