British Boogie Bands,

You know, late 60's early 70's stuff like Foghat, Humble Pie, Spooky Tooth and Savoy Brown. Anybody still listen to that stuff? I'm looking for a real good compilation for the at work CD player. Any suggestions? Dave

You can't ignore Status Quo's early stuff from that compilation. Some great songs there - Down the Dustpipe, Paper Plane, Mean Girl amongst them. And how about early Fleetwood Mac and Chicken Shack?

not sure if you could call them a boogie band, but i always thought T Rex threw down pretty good rock and roll.

I always thought of T Rex as "Glam", kinda' like Bowie as Ziggy or Mott the Hopple. Although Mott does an awesome "You really got me" circa 69/70 prior to the hip high boots and silver sparkle stuff era.
Early Peter Green Fleetwood Mack stuff was under the radar for me till a few years ago.

Sounds good to me -

"We love to boogie, we love to boogie
Jitterbug boogie, Bolan pretty boogie
We love to boogie on a Saturday night"

didn't Savoy Brown have one whole side of a live album reserved for the song "Savoy Brown Boogie"? Here's from the bio on the Savoy Brown website:

Quote:
Blues/rock and boogie music always was the band's calling card and they captured, forever, the spirit of the music on the live side of A Step Further ( 1969) with a twenty minute boogie "The Savoy Brown Boogie" ...
In '89 they released an album called Kings of Boogie

Foghat had an album called Boogie Motel in '79. Here is from the bio on the Foghat web-site:

Quote:
Foghat began their career in 1971 as a bunch of rather unpretentious young Brits with an affection for American blues and '50s rock 'n' roll. By the middle of the decade, they had evolved into a major touring and recording act, playing a pumped-up brand of boogie-rock to arena-size audiences.
Humble Pie's first single in '69 was Natural Born Boogie - it was a hit at #4 in the UK.

from Humble-Pie.net:

Quote:
Their live act (1970) was now a blend of boogie and blues with Marriott coming to the fore as the primary front man...

Dave - I did enjoy the British boogie back then. I seem to remember a show in San Jose with Humble Pie, Foghat, and JoJo Gunne... I don't think I ever saw Savoy Brown, but I might have forgotten a few shows along the way..
