Forgive the rant . . . but another bad experience with UPS . . . .

Ordered four items from an online retailer . . . . they were shipped to me at the same time, but in separate boxes, each with their own UPS tracking number.

Yesterday 3 of the boxes arrived. Yet UPS tracking info shows all 4 as having been delivered and left at the front door. The missing one was probably in a large padded mailer (rather than a box), and there was no wind at all yesterday, so it did not blow away.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that the missing box was taken by someone from my door. First of all, it is very rare that anyone ever comes to my door, which is quite far from the street, and the packages were not visible.

On top of that, the laptop, printer and software boxes were not taken. If it were someone there stealing it, they would have taken the clearly valuable items. I think this is just another example of UPS incompetence or theft by driver.

Based on this and prior experiences, I strongly suggest avoiding UPS whenever possible.

On a separate note, I will be talking to the retailer (on Monday, when their customer service is open) as to why they sent a $1500 laptop (a Xmas gift for my daughter) without requiring a signature (or even asking me if I wanted such a requirement).

End of rant.

Since you have had so many probs with UPS more than anyone Ive seen in my 15 years on the internet Id say there is a local problem the packages are probably fine until they get to your town then something is happening to them.

Why not when buying new items ask how they are being shipped and if they say UPS refuse that method of shipment thats what I do I dont want anything shipped to me by UPS.

Do you know anyone else in your same town you could have stuff delivered to?

Id say at this point its not safe to have anything delivered to your address by UPS

I too am suspecting your driver, or someone is casing your house...

Either way, I would contact the police since UPS is both unwilling and incapable of policing their own.

I agree that it is likely something local . . . and I will be doing exactly as you have suggested . . . only problem is that many retailers have exclusive deals for shipping, so it may require I deal with another retailer in order to avoid UPS. In some cases, it may make no difference, other than a minor inconvenience, but where there is only one seller, or they have the only good deal, it may mean I have no choice (if I want the item).

On the other hand, I imagine that there must be items that UPS delivers that are actually delivered (and not stolen or lost). By the law of averages, some things will probably arrive . . . . but I will hope for better than 1 out of 4 going missing . . . .

No UPS Driver is going to risk losing his job with UPS for ANYTHING. PERIOD.
Those are Jobs that hardly ever have openings.

Why couldn't You ask for "Signature Required"?
Whenever I ship goods to a Buyer I always specify "Signature Required".
It's like a dollar more and it's peace of mind.

Do you have any protection or recourse through your credit card company?

I would call the 800 number on the back of the credit card that you used and explain the situation. They may be able to help. American Express is really good at sticking their nose into anything and motivating trouble makers to cooperate.

It's one of those "poop rolls downhill" deals.

If the seller's funds get frozen, the seller will go after the shipper. Either the seller or the shipper dropped the ball. You shouldn't get screwed.

Good luck. Sorry about the stress.

UPS BLOWS. I had a $3500 Gibson Custom Shop ES-355 being delivered. UPS was running later than usual and I had to leave for the night. I checked with a neighbor and asked him if he would be home....Than I placed a large note on my door stating "Do not leave package on my porch..Neighbor so and so is home and will sign for it"...

I arrive home the following day and the note is still on my door. I knock on my neighbors, he says they did not stop by....Track the package...It says "LEFT AT CUSTOMERS DOOR". Well, I panic..knock on all my neighbors doors, etc...Call UPS and the shipper...Ask why was it not Signature Required and why would they leave it when I had the note saying not to;....

Long story short, I waited for the driver the next day and asked him if he left the package...YES, it is a safe neighborhood, he says....I than reem him up and down for ignoring the note, and leaving a huge box labeled GIBSON CUSTOM SHOP on my porch overnight....

I got a refund, but it was a pain, and it took a long time to get another guitar....Not the first time something like this has happened with UPS. WOuld not trust them for anything...Fedex never lets me down

So, meanwhile, someone has your Gibson that you originally paid for.

Use the USPS. Unlike UPS we deliver on Saturdays and Sunday if it's an overnight emergency case without an extra charge. A lot cheaper and quicker too than UPS.

Anytime I have anything shipped over from the USA I insist on USPS or the deal is off. I've never had a problem with anything sent that way.
I have had a number of bad experiences with UPS.

I vote that it's someone casing the house. The fact that your door is far from the street only makes it easier for someone to pick up a package unseen.

UPS may be getting a bad name here for nothing...

Drivers on my route don't leave packages at the door unless you request it. Fedex and USPS will, but not UPS.
