Figure Skating

Stop! It's not what you think!

I've been intrigued with figure skaters for years. A prof took me to the ballet in years gone by, and I just couldn't get into it, but when it comes to ice skating, I love it all from hockey to whatever they do on ice.

Anyway, I saw a French couple tonight that blew me away in the dance category tonight. It's only getting better over time ... and I'm no voyeur.

Tim, Chet, Getbent ... keep still .. buddies!

It is truely awesome. The athleticism (is that a word?) is amazing, not to mention the coordination if it's couples.

I could say ... to each their own .. but I'm really looking forward to every event at the winter Olympics in a couple of months!

I'm an Olympic nut, and despise my old age when I watch sports. hehe Seize the moment you young one's!

I much prefer the winter Olympics to the summer games. Don't watch much figure skating, but i love to do it. I used to live on Maryland's eastern shore, right on the water. One winter the Choptank River froze solid; I skated the two miles across it to the other side. It was about 20 degrees out and a 25 mph wind. It took me 45 minutes to skate across and 20 minutes to skate back with the tailwind.

I know what you mean; I developed an early appreciation for the photography in Sears catalogs...

That's probably one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen.

I remember when Johnny Wier used to have a costume that was supposed to be a swan. But he's very... theatrical.

Anyway, the athleticism (a real word, BTW) is pretty astounding. And I can't really imagine TRAINING for some of the stuff they do. Practicing to turn four times in the air with your body at an angle, you're basically saying "I'm going to almost kill myself at least a hundred times before I start making this look possible."

That's scary.

The way the skaters cry after every skate turns me off.

C'mon!

C'mon Chet! If you don't angle some kind of fish everytime you get out with a rod, you cry too, right?

I've befriended a guitar playing guy (married) who was in the Air Force in the 1960s and a figure skater. He said what you said about loving it all followed by the observation that the hockey players were playing with sticks and sometimes grabbing each other and figure skaters were hanging with and onto cute women so his decision to switch from hockey to figure skating was easy.

Don't watch it now, but I must admit I never changed the channel back in the 80's and 90's when Katarina Witt was on the ice...

Eric, did you watch Battle of the Blades? Call me a softy, but that stuff was just so earnest and charming that I couldn't help but enjoy it.

I saw the final three couples of the Ice Dancing last night, and yes, the French were quite something. I liked the Canadians who won it, though. We may have a chance for gold in February.

I caught bits and pieces ... Battle of the Blades, amazing stuff! Claude Lemieux and Craig Simpson! Who knew?

What a crazy show! There's more art in the bod than we admit to sometimes!
