Yawn...You're prof is just using the latest cop out that is trendy now with Beatle haters. Now might be a good time to learn to start questioning authority figures.

This Beatles/Jonas Bros thread should prove enlightening http://www.tdpri.com/forum/bad-dog-c...-brothers.html

If I may quote myself:
"I think it's common knowledge now that there are more dissimilarities then similarities between the Beatles and the Jonas Bros. Actually the ONLY thing I see they have in common is that they make girls scream.

I don't see grown women screaming, I don't see dudes digging the Jonas Bros music and literally millions of them being influenced enough to starting their own bands like the influence the Beatles had on the youth of the 60's and still to this day. I don't see current well respected composers giving the Jonas Bros praise like Leonard Bernstein and many others of his time respected and saw brilliance in the Beatles' compositions. But we already know that, right? I hope I'm preaching to the choir."

If you don't like the Beatles, that fine. Just don't make stuff up.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/bad-dog-c...rocknroll.html
I think the concensus was that the book title was quite an exaggertation to grab potential readers' attentions.

-Is this directed at me? If so, your arrogance is discouraging.
-My music prof is a prof because he didn't make it in the music biz. He hates the music industry.
-I never said I agreed with his Beatles/ Jonas Bros. comparison.
-I must say I know at least 3 bands here in Athens, Ga who site Jonas Bros. as an influence.
-I hope you're not one of those forum sharking aging hipster music snobs. Those guys are the worst!

Do you have a source for this?

I have a hypothesis about the Beatles. Neither John, Paul or George were as successfull in their solo careers as they were in the Beatles. Hence, the key to the Beatles success was Ringo! Ringo was " the straw that stirred the drink." I will now be pummeled about the ears by your responses.

interesting theory.

Ringo did play on some records by each of his former bandmates, and pretty much remained a friend to John, Paul and George through the years. they loved the way he played and certainly knew that he'd provide what they wanted on their recordings. J,P & G made significant contributions to his "Ringo" album in 1973, and wrote stuff for his "Stop & Smell the Roses" lp a few years later.

John joked in 73 or 74 that Ringo's career was going better than his.

i always felt that J,P & G continued to write subconsciously with Ringo in mind. go back and listen to Paul's solo albums, betcha you can pick out a song that would be perfect for Ringo on just about every lp. example: "Band on the Run" album: "Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me)" is right up Ringo's alley.

I couldn't agree more!

I'm reading Shout! right now and really enjoying it.

I've laughed through this book because my band is doing a gig in Alaska next year that is going to have us playing four hours a night, five nights a week for just over a month in the same venue. Right now, we do mostly originals and hardly ever play over an hour a night. We've been joking about how we're going to come home completely different people (possibly hating each other) - so when I got to the Hamburg section of this book I cracked up. I can't believe how long they had to play and how rough that was! Talk about whipping you into shape - that's a dream come true and a nightmare all at the same time
