Miles Davis Quintet 65-68 - 6 CD set
We were at friends for dinner last night and I came across the above. (I had participated in the conversation during the evening - I'm not one of those people who goes straight to the host's record collection as soon as I arrive!! I at least wait until after I've been fed.)
I had a vague familiarity with this lineup through purchasing the VSOP album about 1978. This featured Freddie Hubbard instead of Miles, and the rest of the guys - Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter. Apparently Miles wouldn't participate.
And then, in watching Ken Burns 'Jazz' series recently, I gained a basic understanding of where the Quintet fitted into the scheme of things.
So I was very excited when I found the 6 CD set and the host, seeing me drooling, invited me to borrow it. Leah and I listened to a bit of the first CD and it is really something.
It was also interesting to reflect that whilst Miles was doing this, he was kicking off his fusion stuff. He must have been a busy man!
